The glaistig water fairy is a ghost of Scottish mythology. She is a type of a fuath. And is known as a maighdean uaine or Green Maiden. She can appear in many different shapes/ so she is shape-shifter too.
She can appear as a beautiful woman as I have shown you in my one picture, or as a monstrous mien, as a
half-woman half -goat similar to a satyr. Sometimes she could be in the shape of a goat, with her lower half
of her hybrid form is usually in disguised by a long flowing green robe or dress, and the woman often appears with grey but beautiful skin. Her hair would be either long flowing yellow hair or up looking very pretty .
In this tale of the Glaistig Water Fairy some of the stories, she has men lure to her lair via either by song
or by a dance she may give them. The dance is when she is able to get close enough where she would then drink their blood without them even knowing it because they are lost in the lust of her upper body of beautiful skin, sense of flowers and fairy song ringing in their ears. In a word they are Bewitched.
Of course there are other tale of this Scottish tale; these are more benign incarnations of the Glaistig is more of a type of a tutelary spirit and protector of the cattle and herders in Scotland. In the Town of AchnaCreige
had such a spirit to protected their cattle herds. The townsfolk, in gratitude, would pour milk from the cows
into a hollowed-out stone for her (Glaistig Water Fairy) to drink. According to the same legend, The Glaistig Fairy's protection was revoked after one local youth poured boiling milk into the stone, where the Glaistig Fairy would drink, and it burning her while drinking the milk.
It was said that the Glaistig Fairy was described in some folklore as a watcher over children while their mother were out in the fields milking the cows and the fathers were watching over the herds. As shape-shifting creatures of the Scottish Highlands, these Glaistig Fairies were also known as the 'Maighdean Uanie', which means 'Green Maiden'. So In Scottish Highlands this meant sometimes the Green Maiden or Glaistig Fairy - She could be sometimes An-goat, sometimes a half goat, half woman and at other times she is a beautiful women.
What this Glaistig Faiy does is waits by the sides of streams and begs travellers to help across. Those that
do so are either led astray or killed with their throats being slit. Some believe the Glaistig Fairy is a household
fairy like a Brownie of sorts, who does chores around a house when the family is sleeping. It is said
that she will wail before the death of a person that dies in the household much like that of a Banshee.
I have one more tale for you all I think you could call this Glaistig Water Fairy a Glaistig a vampiric fairy for its love for blood. Anyway. One Farmer though it could out Wit the Glaistig Fairy by ordering her to create him a magical cattle; after doing so, the farmer released her( I don't quite understand how he got her under his power in the first place but that just me! on with the story) One the Glaistig Fairy was released you could only image what happens next Eh! Well when giving out her arm in a goodbye gesture, the famer cut the Glaistig fairy arm off! Oh! My! Trouble... The vegetation of the farmers land was cursed to forever be stained red. It is said in Scottish folklore that the Glaistig is a vampiric Fairy that inhabits the pools of the highlands.
Love you All
