DidYouKnow?SnowIsGoodForYourGarden!

Good Afternoon my dear Friends & Followers and Welcome to
TipsFromtheGarden! For todays' Saturdays Tips for your Garden
I found quote 'Did you know Love it or hate it, that
Snow is actually good for your Garden and will help the birds too?'
Well this is what we will be talking about today...
Did you know that snowflakes have six
sides and like the human finger-pint, there
is no two are alike. The shape of a snowflake depends on the temperature and
Moisture content of the cloud it came from.
Interesting Eh! Well there is more, in 1887
the worlds largest known snowflakes were
15 inches wide and 8 inches thick. It was found in Fort Keogh, Montana in the year 1887.
When the temperature goes down to 32 degrees and even below, the birds
often have no choice but to eat snow for a source of water.
You 'll often see birds like goldfinches, grosbeaks, redpolls
and siskins pecking at the snow and pick it up in their bills.
There are Three types of flowers that you might see popping up
through the snow in late winter or early spring- these are:
WinterBerry
The Crocus, Snowdrop and winter aconite. And
Sometimes the Berry's from the Winterberry.
Some other good things about the snow for your Garden!
After a fresh snowfall, look fro animal and bird tracks in your
backyard. By looking at the tracks, you can determine what
type of animals visit your yard/garden and follow their paths.
Find some five-toed tracks? here are a five animals they could be:
Squirrel, Raccoon, Black bear, Porcupine , Woodchuck or even possum.
Finally 90% of fresh snow is made up of mostly trapped air!
Something I didn't know myself!
It is usually 90% to 95% on a avenge, however it's usually 90%.
The rest of the snow is ice and together they make a great insulator
for your garden. Plants that are in the ground and ones that are
in pots that are covered with snow are more likely to survive
than plants with only soil surrounding them.
Well I hope that you Enjoyed my Saturday Post
TipsFromtheGarden~ About Snow!!!
I wish You all a happy Weekend and Christmas too that
is just around the cornor .. I love you  all very much
