Father Time

Oldfather Time~
OLDFATHER TIME
I thought since we are into the new year I would
start with a few legendary legends such as
Oldfather Time. Before the holidays, I got lots of
feedback on urban legends so I thought I would start with
the Father Time/Father Christmas legend. It is said that in the
ancient times of the Romans they
would celebrate Saturnalia which was a week-long harvest festival in
December to honor Saturn. It was likely that the festival was influenced by the Christian people and their traditions, the year
354AD, when Pope Liberius ordered that December, 25 be
observed as the birthday of Christ. The Pope Liberius then cited
Father Christmas
the precedent of Saturnalia, which probably in the hope that
the new holiday would divert attention from the pagan revelry.
This is why the images of Father Time & Father Christmas plus the
passing of the old year and the coming of the new have
all come to be associated with one another over the centuries.
Here's to the bright New year And a fond farewell
to the old; Here's to the things that are yet to come
And to the memories that we hold. -Anonymous-
So what better way to start the new year with a bit of history, trivia, myth, murder, incest and intrigue, Well that is what some say with the legend of Oldfather time--Father Time--Old Man Time--Aka Old Man Time--Father Christmas.
It is usually said that Father time is depicted as an elderly bearded
man, dressed in a robe, carrying a scythe and an hourglass or other timekeeping devices. Sometimes he is pictured with an infant or young child to symbolize the coming of the new year!
However, there are over ways that Father time has been depicted too. Have you noticed who he resembles? Well, I think the Grim Reaper is one to synonymous with death, which is sometimes depicted as a figure in its own right. Father Time, Old Man Time, and the Grim Reaper and Death the same person?
So the question is?
If you want to know where Father Time originates are it is from Greek Mythology.
The 2 greek gods with the similar names
Cronus -- Chronos
1-Cronus was one of the descendants of  Gaia, the earth, and Uranus, the sky, With his siblings they made up a collection of deities known as the Titans. Cronus being the youngest and also their leader. Cronus envied the power of his father Uranus and with the connivance of this mother Gaia, he ambushed Uranus. Using a sickle made and provided by Gaia, he castrated Uranus and threw his testicles into the sea. Thereafter Cronus ruled with his sister Rhea as king and queen. Appropriately, he was and is usually depicted with a sickle in his hand. The period of his rule is known as the Golden Age. The festival of Kronia was held in his honor and to celebrate the harvest, suggesting that he was also the patron saint to the harvest.
Cronus had been told by Gaia and Uranus that he would be overcome by his own son. To stop this happening as soon as rhea gave birth to a child, Cronus pre-empted the prophecy by swallowing his unborn children. By the time she was due to give birth to child number 6 Rhea had had enough, She enlisted the aid of her mother in law Gaia and together they hid the sixth child in a cave, where he was raised either by a goat or by Gaia  depending upon which version you wish to believe. Cronus was given a stone to disguised as the baby and swallowed that in the belief that it was his son. The baby became the God Zeus. When he grew to the God Zeus he used an emetic to force Cronus to disgorge as the babies he had eaten, who had remained alive. The war that followed saw Zeus victorious with Cronus being imprisoned for eternity.
2-Chronos was a very different entity to that  all around good guy, Cronus.
Long before Cronus, before Gaia and before Uranus, the universe was unformed, a mass in the shape of an egg. In addition to the cosmic egg, there were also the primordial hoods Ananke and Chronos, sometimes written as Khronos. Ananke was the primeval goddess of inevitability and necessity and had emerged fully formed at the beginning of time. She had a serpent's form. Chronos was the time god, also, serpentine in form but with three heads, that of man, a bull, and a lion. Chronos and Ananke wrapped the egg in their coils and squeezed, shattering the egg and thereby creating the earth, sea, and air. Chronos and Ananke remain forever entwined within the universe so created, being the forces of fate and time. The younger gods then created are said to be controlled by them. An alternative version holds that Chronos impregnated  Ananke who then laid the cosmic egg. Eros hatched from the egg and created Chaos from which came Gaia Uranus, Tartarus the abyss and so on. Whereas Cronus, the evil guy, was considered by the Greeks to be a tempestuous force of the chaos and disorder, Chronos, the God of time controls the past, present, and future of everything.
Although most frequently depicted as a young man, Chronos was  sometimes pictured as an old wise man with a long white/gray beard. His name in modern Greek means 'YEAR' and his name has given rise to such words as chronometer, chronology, chronic, anachronism and chronicle.bytesdaily.blogspot.com/2010/12/father-time.html
www.novareinna.com/festive/oft.html
www.grammarphobia.com/blog/2006/10/a-brief-history-of-father-time.html
is where I found this article have a look if you like;
Father Time; Similarity of the names Cronus and Chronos are believed to have resulted in a blurring of the distinction between the two, the confusion causing the time god to become depicted as an old man with a scythe. The sickle used by Cronus and Saturn has become symbolic not of the castration of one's own father but of the unrelenting flow to time. It was the sickle or scythe which had emasculated Uranus/Saturn thereby enabling the next
generation to rule the cycle of birth-life-death. Sometimes Father Time is depicted with an hour glass, symbolizing the flow of time. Time's elderly body and long, white beard are reminders that time itself is a devourer of all things. Nothing can escape time. Nonetheless, time also gives serenity, experience, and wisdom.
The downward flow of the sand in the hourglass and the loss of the body's vitality is balanced by the upward flow of the spirit  the increase of wisdom of the spirit and the mind. The young bull and the old bull of words
The Grim Reaper: From the 15th century onwards, Death has been depicted as a
skeletal figure that carried a large scythe and clothed in a black cloak with a hood. He has also been termed as the Angel of Death, Stemming from the Bible too. The image of the Grim Reaper, aka Death, comes directly from the combined image of Chronos and Cronus.
The Grim Reaper is sometimes depicted as being accompanied by a crow too.
It may be that in ancient Greek culture the crow was somehow associated with death, perhaps because crow pecked at the corpse on the battlefields. It is also true that the greek word for crow means 'Corone' sounds much like Cronus and Chronos. By the Middle ages, there were many engravings of the Grim Reaper which depict a skeletal
Figure holding a scythe and the
hourglass with a crow nearby. Also, you must
not forget the lady Morgain too.
Well I hope you enjoy my first post of the
a new year with I hope I will have many
more for you to come
Happy New Year
Love you all very much

Who is Krampus?

Who is Krampus?
Krampus and Saint Nicholas visit at home
in 1896

I thought I might do the folklore character that is based on the Germany Character Krampus - Also since they have done a very scary version of the infamous beast like creature in an upcoming movie this coming Chrismas. For which I am not so sure it is quite like the culture of the German and Australia Krampus fictional character that was used to scare the haunt naughty children during the yuletide season. Above is an old fashion type of the kinda image they would show of the fictional beast like character to scare naughty children before the Christmas season. This fictional character is an infamous beast that is said to haunt naughty children during the yuletide season of Germany.
An 1800 picture of Krampus
The Krampus was said to have enormous horns, dark hair, and fangs. Krampus is like the counterpart of Santa Claus. It is believed that he collects the kids who have been naughty and takes them with him down to the underworld. On December in Germany, Children are accustomed to checking, their doorsteps. If they get a gift it means that they have been nice and good boys and girls. However, if the children get a rod, well this is bad news, it means they have been naughty and Krampus will probably be coming to collect them.
Nowadays, in a search for non-traditional ways of celebrating the yuletide season, the people have come up with the Krampus parties where guests will dress up like the Christmas beast and will scare the guests. This has become a pop culture in the US and Germany it seems the Catholic Chruch is against the raucous celebration. It could be that is was created during a time of pagan/yuletide's when the Catholic Church wasn't established yet... This is only my own opinion...
The Krampus of folklore of Germany
of early Christmas Dec 4.
The Krampus would come at Christmas time, hairy backed, brown or black, cloven hooves, horns of the goat. The not-so-merry---Krampus! This beast with Germanic roots is St. Nichola's other half and scares children into being nice, not naughty. It is said Bad Santa meets Krampus; a half-goat, half-demon, horrific beast who literally beats people into being nice and not naughty.
I do remember this folklore last Christmas, but I just didn't think it was one to write about however with the new movie coming out I thought I would this time. It is quite different than the original tale.
Krampus isn't exactly the stuff of fairytales. Coming from the pagan times, he bears horns, dark hair, and fangs. The anti-St. Nicholas comes with a chain and bells that he lashes about along with a bundle of birch sticks which are meant to swat naughty little children. The he hauls all the naughty kids of the world to the underworld.
Krampus, whose name is derived from the German word 'Krampen', meaning claw, is said to be the son of 'Hel in Norse Mythology'. The legendary beast also shares characteristics with other scary, demonic creatures in Greek mythology including the Satyrs and Fauns. The legend is part of a centuries-old Christmas tradition in Germany, where Christmas celebrations begin in early December 6.
This Creature was created as a counterpart to the kindly St. Nicholas who rewards all children of the world with sweets and gifts.
Contrast to the Krampus who swats the wicked naughty children who are not nice and takes them away to his lair. According to the folklore of the Krampus, it will purportedly show up in towns the night before December 6, known as Krampusnacht Night. December 6 also happens to be Nikolaustag or St. Nicholas Day when the
Children of Germany look outside their doors to see if the shoe or boot they'd lift our the night before contains either present - as a reward for good behavior or a rod for bad behavior.
There are other tales in Austria, Hungary, Slovenia and the Czech Republic that involves the drunken men that dressed as devils who take over the streets for a Krampuslauf-a Krampus Run of sorts when people are chased through the streets by the 'devils'.  You wonder why? It seems in the pagan/yuletide days it's a way for humans to get in touch with their animalistic side. It is hard for some to understand, but one much realized that it was a whole different whole back then. And their believe's were much different that many today.  If you want to learn more about the pagan traditions mysterious you can look by 'Antonio Carneiro' who has written much on the subject of early pagan Traditions.Antonio Carneiro Early Pagan Traditions
krampuschristmasgifts.com/hello-world/
Above are a few links of the Early Pagan Traditions~
Well Then in the States there is the lump of Coal when children were
naughty...
It seems that the Krampus's frightening presence was suppressed for many years from the Catholic Church forbade the raucous celebrations and fascists in World War ll Europe found the Krampus despicable because it was considered to be a creation of the Social Democrats. However, the legend Krampus is making a comeback now, thanks to the pop culture and people searching for ways to celebrate the yuletide non-traditional ways. But like with anything if, you do too much of a good think you can over do a legend and it seems that there are folks already complaining that the Krampus is to commercialize by this upcoming movie.
For your own opinion my dearest Friends & Followers
Here is a little bit about the upcoming film which they say
is both comedy and horror. A film celebrating the
Mysteries of the legend of Krampus December 4, 2015.
I have seemed two different trailers and I haven't seen
any comedy to the film only the sadness of the
spirit of Christmas and the horror of the creature.
Below is one image that I didn't see in the
trailers and that is the one below.
It's a full photo of the Krampus with our
child hero from the Movie.
As for the movie, it is based on the legend
~Krampus~
Traditionally there are parades in which young men will
dress as the Krampus, such as the Krampuslauf, that occurs
annually in most Alpine towns.
Krampus is featured on holiday greeting cards
called Krampuskarten. In German-speaking Alpine folklore,
the Krampus is a horned, anthropomorphic figure.
According to traditional narratives around the figure.
The Krampus punishes children during the Christmas
season who have misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas
who has rewarded well-behaved children with gifts.
There are even Regions in Austrian have similar
figures of Krampus.
There is one last and very import tradition
that is celebrated all over the world that I must not leave
out. Christmas does have many folklore and legends.
And of course, Santa Claus.
However, there is one other very important person
to Me! 'Happy Birthday Christ & to all the other
Faiths in this World'.
I do lots of different legends, folklore & mythology,
however at Christmas time I am so very thankful for
my Faith and my God. I pray that all of you
dearest Friends & Followers, that you look to your faith
love and whatever guides you above the heavens giving
you Faith. Have a wonderful and happy
Christmas full of love and peace.
I love you all.

Legend of the Nymphs

Legend of the Nymphs~
Nymphs
Good afternoon my dear friends & Followers, I know I have done a few posts on the legend of the Nymphs, however, when I find something that might be a bit different within the legend I always try to share with you all. Some have said that the Nymph are physical incarnations of the forces of all nature. Others will say that they are from many different cultures of ancient times. In most of my encounters of the legend of the Nymphs, they are female like that of the tree nymphs[Dryads of the Forests] for which I have written about quite a lot within my blog. Also, the Greek Mythology and the life of the nymphs towards mortal men. Nymphs are born from nature itself one day and appeared human like & the next moment can be a gust of the wind, a budded tree, or part of the enormous ocean. Nymphs can also be born through mating with other races depending on the race. This can be human, or immortal. If you read some of my other post on Nymphs, you might find that these creatures of natures exist in an unusual state of limbo between life and death. In a general sense nymphs are immortal, however, some nymphs can be killed or made mortal through rare circumstances that nymphs keep guard dearly.
Air Nymphs~
Air Nymph
Air Nymphs are referred to Nymphs that are attuned to the element of the sky. They spend most of their time in the skies above and affect the weather through their manipulation of air currents. These Nymphs are widely known for their beautiful singing voices, which is very much like that of the sirens and mermaids of the seas. These Air nymphs are most probably the most populous and can be found almost anywhere, from the smallest of breezes brushing through the leaves to the fiercest of storms that rage high above us humans. Despite their population which is high due to the fact, they never or are elusive and refuse to interact with the mortal humans or for that fact any other mortal races. This could be why their numbers are still high and are hidden. It is said that air nymphs never stay in one place very long and do not usually make emotional attachments either. Also, contrary to popular belief, the air nymphs cannot be captured in jars like fireflies, enchanted or not. However they can be trapped in containers made of celestite, that is if one can find the stuff.
It is said that most of the Air Nymphs are born from the first breath of a mortal baby. They are truly immortal, however, they can succumb to sickness if the air becomes polluted. If this happens it can lead to very strange weather occurrences or stagnant air. As to what is happening in this 21th century. If we don't get our act together the strange weather will just get worst and worst as it has in the last century....
Note; Air Nymphs can also be divided into two different classes, the most common would be that of the wind nymphs & the least common is the storm nymphs even though they are 'Sisters' they are quite different from each other, but who isn't. Even in the human world sisters are very different and we all get along mostly.
Wind Nymphs~
Wind Nymphs
The Wind Nymphs are the most recognized for their very long white flowing hair, which creates waves in the wind, as they dance and fly. They say that the Wind Nymphs are the most graceful of all the sister's. They have a presence that their other sisters don't presence. The Wind Nymphs never remain in a tangible state, their long hair covers their naked bodies which their breasts, all the way down to their waist and delicate feet. They are nothing but shifting winds. Also they are translucent, being able to partially see through them and their eyes are shades of gray. These Wind Nymphs are the most passive of their sister's as well as the most common of all the Nymphs. They strictly refrain from contact with mortals humans, especially humans and stick to their roles as observers or guardians of the skies. As I have said that these Nymphs are very kind and compassionate beings, known for being very understanding to those who gain their audience.
They are also known for their beautiful singing voices and dance. There have been cases where a wind nymph will appear before someone gifted with a beautiful singing voice, singing along with the person. They are a very free spirited Nymph and will literally go wherever the wind blows them, riding on the currents of the air. The Wind Nymph have control over any sort of wind and some even have the ability to control gale winds. They may conjure a gentle breeze to rock a baby in a cradle to sleep or dance along sails of ships of the deepest oceans and sending them into endless circles something like the Sirens and Mermaids. It is said that the wind nymphs know all that occurs in the world presently and the past. So I would take care when you are out and about on a windy day!
Storm Nymphs~
This was the best
image I could find
of the Storm Nymph
The Storm Nymphs Is another of the sisters, although these Nymphs are quite contrasting from their wind/air sisters. Their hair is quite curly, but sill very long and has a general flow to it like that of their sisters. I found that in most cases their hair is dark and sometimes black signifying their seniority. Their complexion can be a gray or very pale which is different to the wind nymph's sister's. These Nymphs stay intangible like their wind nymph sisters; however it is of greater offense to walk  through a storm nymph. Why? because while tangible they have bronze shoulder pads with jagged spikes, indicating lighting. Their hair also covers their chest but, they are also wearing dark material over their chests behind their hair. Storm Nymphs are not quite as passive as their sister's the Wind Nymphs. However, they similarly don't enter into conflicts that concern themselves. These nymphs primarily travel will in storm clouds or even will conjure up an storm of clouds on their own. They say that it is very easy to offend a storm nymph, so if one happens to pass through a bad storm, be prepared to dodge the lightening of an storm nymph. Storm Nymphs generally live over the ocean where they can form, spin their enormous clouds one after another. They can also turn a beautiful blue clear day into a very dark creepy one filled with the rumbling of thunder and lighting. The Storm Nymphs are also capable of creating sandstorms, hurricanes and tornadoes too, which is why most people tend not to like these type of nymphs. As for the type of lighting they can create, these bolts of lighting can be some of the most unusual colours such as green and purple and many others.
Earth Nymphs~
Earth Nymphs
Earth Nymphs are attuned to our Earth & all thing within like minerals and even gems of the earth. They are immediately recognized by their brown skin tones which unusual since they live underground.  Their hair is usually black or brown, depending on the earth nymphs. She may keep her hair long, short or even up in a variety of gemstones. Earth Nymphs eyes are vivid, blues, reds, greens and yellows and they wear a variety of clothing that is attuned with the depths of the earth. They wear traditional earth armour which is made with diamonds, sapphires, ruby's and other strong metals and gemstones. Ever since their birth of the first kingdoms of Elenlond, these earth nymphs have served not only as protectors of the balance of the earth but protectors of the ancient treasures as well.
These nymphs have a few special powers too! they have the ability to become stone; giving them the appearance to statues that many stay dormant for eons until awakened by an intruder.
They are referred to as Statuettes or guardians. However, one must gain an favour of an earth nymph in order to obtain one. They are fiercely loyal and will fight viciously for all they love. These nymphs will marry into dwarven or gnomish families quite often and live with their husbands raising their children together as a family. The female offspring of dwarf/gnome and earth nymphs are always earth nymphs. Earth Nymphs get along with dwarves quite well too! They say the greatest weapons were drawn from the earth by an earth nymph and forged by a dwarf.
In very rare cases, an Earth Nymph will marry a human. This is highly rare but happens once in a blue moon. It doesn't happen usually because of the nature of the Earth Nymph who prefer to live under the ground.
Some of the other special things about the Earth Nymphs;
-Is that they control over all of earth, rocks and minerals.
-They change into any shape they desire, as well as move their shape in a sort of limited telekinesis.
-They can shift the earth by causing either small or violent earthquakes
-Earth Nymphs can also turn their bodies into an almost impenetrable stone.
-Earth Nymph are usually immortal however it is said that a sewing needle made from a mixture of gold and meteorite fragments can puncture into their skin will make them completely mortal.
Mountain Nymphs~
Mountain Nymph
Here are the Mountain Nymphs which are essentially the same as the Earth Nymphs except they live solely on the mountains. These Nymphs, however, prefer to live in isolation instead of infusing themselves into society. The Earth Nymphs who inter-society with dwarven or gnomish families and live with their husbands raising their children together as a family. These Mountain Nymphs are first noticeably taller than their cousins and they don't wear regular clothing as the earth nymphs do. They to be mostly naked with just a bit of cloth on. These Mountain nymphs will help travellers who have gotten lost or need aid, however, they will produce an thick mist similar to wood nymphs that cause the traveller to merely think that it was all a dream.
Water Nymphs~
Water Nymphs are very attuned to various forms of water however, there are different kinds of water nymphs --- Ocean, Lake, & River. There is one form that is restricted to the Water Nymph and that is when water is solid like Ice. It seems that while ocean & river nymphs are restricted to water in its liquid and gaseous form. The water nymphs spend most of the time in the water & are known for their rivalry with the mermaid. It seems that most the water Nymphs dislike their watery sisters [mermaids/sierns] because of their flirtatious behaviour and their habit of seducing males who happen to cross their path. They can easily be found lying on the banks of rivers or on rocky outcrops in the sea
Water Nymphs
enjoying the sun or simply combing their hair. These Water nymphs are notorious peepers and if one happens to hear giggling while bathing in a river waterfall or beach, in most cases it's a water nymph. Water nymphs are said to be the most beautiful of all nymphs and are excellent seers. Many water and ice nymphs can see the future from a pool of water.
Ocean & River Nymphs-common water nymph
Ocean Nymphs
The main difference with the water nymph and the Ocean/River Nymphs are generally the same except for one thing - The Ocean Nymph always lives in the ocean and the River Nymph in the River. Ocean Nymphs for some unexplained reasons are not capable of entering rivers and will simply stand on it as if it were a solid piece of ground, which is vice versa for the river nymphs for the ocean.
Ocean/River Nymphs have a slightly blue colour to their skin however if they spend long periods of time out of the water sunny on the rocks it could make them appear almost human. Also, their hair will come in a variety of different blue hues with some sort of sea plant within it but if again if they spend long periods of time sunny themselves on the rocks their hair can change to a more human look. The clothing that they wear is mostly comprised of seaweed and shells or silks from sunken treasure. As for the River Nymphs they to find what they can deep underneath the depths of the river. Their eyes are very enchanting which can cause those who gaze into them to be attracted to them with these big blue-green eyes.
There have been many of case when a water nymph either ocean/river and a human male - most cases an fisherman or sailor will fall in love. Though these water nymphs are quite fickle in relationships - there have been cases where they became betrothed to whom they will love for the rest of their lives too. Water nymphs are passionate lovers and it is possible for one to literally die of a broken heart. When a Water Nymph dies whether it be from a broken heart or other causes they become the sea foam of the sea and  simply exist as the ocean or river.
Unlike their Cousins Air nymphs, they may be trapped in bottles or jars. They also have the capability to purify water to make it adequate for life as well as drinking water. It is said that the purest springs in the world are almost always tended by a water nymph.
The rivalry that is between the water nymphs and mermaids is actually quite fierce -
It has erupted into many battles in ancient times in the past. In many cases, the seas far from the land masses are the most dangerous as that is where they are the most likely to do their great battles.
Ice Nymphs~
Ice Nymph
Ice Nymphs are actually water nymphs who were created far-far-far north. These nymphs are quite different from their warmer sisters. They live usually in the wastelands of ice or in frozen pools of water. They too are very beautiful though they use their beauty to punish the mortals men mostly. The skin of the Ice Nymph is much paler blue and their hair is a dark blue usually sprinkled with snow. Their eyes are a piercingly bright ice blue. Almost like looking at blue ice. They wear dresses of blue fur and trim. Although they may also wear a jagged armour of ice which won't melt even in the heat of the sun. They use their beauty to lure shallow men into their territory in which they freeze them to death as punishment. Other traits that are unlike their sister nymphs is they are not flirtatious and are unsurprisingly cold to others.
Queen Ice Nymph
They are also rather isolated from their cousins and keep to themselves separate from human/mortals & most other creatures. Ice Nymphs could control Ice similarly to how earth nymphs control earth. Unlike many of the other nymphs, there are Ice Queens. They are recognized for their power & wisdom. I also discovered that Ice Queen Nymphs usually assemble groups of ice nymphs together for their entourage. The Ice nymphs are not as populous as other nymphs. It's been said that the Ice Nymphs had been born through the rare union of a man. It is common to happen in especially after a blizzard.
Fire Nymphs~
Fire Nymph
The Fire Nymphs are the second rarest nymphs to the Ice Nymph. The reason is it's because they are impossible for anyone to ever catch a glimpse of one. This could be because of the non-interaction with the human race. These beautiful nymphs can control fire and are capable of producing their own.
Fire Nymph
Their skin tones were of slight red or orange to a vivid yellow too. Their hair is usually a fiery orange, red, or brownish red and their eyes range from red to yellow. It not very concise whether the Fire Nymphs wear clothing or simply give the appearance of it with fire.  Not  much is know about these Fire Nymphs except that they are born
from a natural lightning bolt that strikes something & catches fire then creates a fire nymph.

~Nymphs~

~Nymphs~
So I thought I would do another post on the Greek Nymphs, but
this one is going to be much more in detail and so much more
info on the Nymphs. I hope that you all my dears will all find
it interesting and fun to read. For I am going to put quite a bit
of information in this post for you all. So first of all, the most obvious question? What is
a Nymphs? Well, they are like fairies if you will of sorts, but they can be very unpredictable, a little
scary and they seem more human like too. They is one thing that I can tell you that makes
them different from a fairy and that is they come from different cultures, plus they are entirely
different than a fairy- 1) Nymphs are only women [fairies can be both men, women, and children too].  There was a diffident reason for the
Nymphs to be only women and that was their sexuality. I think that is why there was never any men or child nymphs. If you noticed in most in all mythology of the Greek or of another culture of the women nymphs it is the common theme. By using their beauty, their sexuality, chastity and that adds up to a scary Nymph at times. If you really think about it, in  folklore and mythology of these spirit women of the waters, it really shouldn't shock you that when every time they get involved with a mortal man or men and sex enters the picture, which it always does with these alluring beautiful & sexual Nymphs something very scary always seems to happen. I should also note that all Nymphs whether it be water, earth, tree, etc all are personifying nature and are protectors of Nature.
I will cover I hope many of the more famous Nymph women who are often associated with nature and
the wildness as things beyond the control of 'civilization'. As I have said before that it is only women that are
the Nymphs, but I must say this: even these spirits of nature can have children. Yet they are not Nymphs like that of their birth mother. Because the fact is these Nymphs often have or not of their own choosing have lovers of the Gods. Nymphs, like all females, deities, are quite beautiful more than even some of the female Goddesses. When they aren't inhabiting some specific part of nature, they are often the attendant of more important deities of the Gods. In some ways, they are both God like/ and human like all wrapped up in a Nymph. I am going to go thru as many as I can below and I hope you all will Enjoy the post, my dear
friends and followers. love you all Wendy..
Amnisiades-These were the nymphs of the Amnisus river in Crete. They were also devotees of the
Goddess Artemis. They care for the Goddess' sacred deer.
Anigrides-Are the nymphs of the Angridus River in Elis and
they are healers. They had a grotto at the river and folks with
skin diseases would come to bath there and gave the nymphs gifts in hopes that they'd get better
from their illness.
Dodonides-These Nymphs were brought to a
site by Zeus, that was one of the most ancient oracle sites in Greece.
DryadesThe Dryades were the Nymphs of the Forest,
woods and woodlands. The Dryades were immortal, unlike the Hamadryades who actually
lived within the Oak trees or the many different kinds of trees the Hamadryade Nymphs they
were in ancient times. These type of Nymph would die when the tree died or if there was a fire
or if there the tree was plagued with illness.
EpimeliadesThese nymphs were the Protectors of the
Sheep.
HaliaiThe Haliai were another type of sea nymph. Their name
was a bit uncommon as yet, but Haliai come from the word
Sea and also means Salt.
HamadrayadesThese are like above, a type
of tree nymph. The nymphs life force is connected to the
tree itself. She lives and breathes within the tree. plus they
can be very powerful if angered. If her tree is hurt, then
she/the hamadryad gets hurt. If her tree gets cut down, then
the hamadryad will died.
HespiridesThis was three sisters nymphs whose father was
Hesperos God of the Evening Star/ they guarded the Tree of the
Golden Apples. Their names were- Aegle, Eritheia, and Hesperia.
NaiadesThe naiades nymphs were of the freshwater streams, rivers, lakes, ponds, fountains
actually there was no limited to these naiades nymphs. Many of the Naiades could be found
prancing around with Artemis who chose up to 20+ Naiades from Amnisus for his companions.
Of course they were all the daughters of the rivergods. They all had extremely long lifetimes, but
they were not considered immortal and were believed to have sat on the Gods discussions on Mount
Olympus. Note there were 5 different types of Naiades:
Pegaiai- Nymphs of Springs
Krinaia- Nymphs of Fountains
Potameides- Nymphs of Rivers and Streams
Limnatides- Nymphs of Lakes
Eleionomai- Nymphs of Marshes
NereidesAs for the Nereides Nymphs there were more than fifty daughters of Nereus God
of the Sea and Goddess Doris. The Nereides had one very famous Nymph and that happened to be
Amphitrite. There was a story About the Amphitrite and the Island of Naxos in ancient Greece; It is
said that when the Nereides including the Sea Nymph Amphitrite had performed a dance on the island
of Naxos the God Poseidon decided to claim Amphitrite as to be his bride.
NyseidesThis is an interesting one! These were the Nymphs in Greek Mythology that were to have
lived on Mount Nysa. As to the Mount Nysa & its where  I couldn't find [ I might just have to come to this post at a later date to write each of these different Nymphs in more detail when I have  more
time]. At any rate these Nyseides Nymphs that suppose to have lived on this mount Nysa had  raised the
young Dionysus after he was stashed there up on the mount by Zeus after his thigh-birth. As for the names
of these Nyseides Nymphs there were quite a few of them- Here are a few that I could find for you
my dears: Cisseis, Nysa, Erato, Eripha, Brome and Polyhymno.
OceanidesWell, if you thought the Nereides had a lot of sisters/ like that of the Nereides Nymphs of
the Sea - Fifty Daughters, the Oceanides Nymphs were 3,000 strong. And they were all the
Nymphs of the Ocean. Their mother was that of Titaness(Tethys) and their father was the Titan of all the Oceanus.
Oreades- These were the Nymphs of the Mountains, of course there was one in particular that
you would recognized and that would be the beautiful Mountain Nymph of Echo.
Thriai- This was a very interesting one of all the nymphs that I discovered and that is because the
Thriai are the Bee-Nymphs who used honey to make prophesies. Apparently there were three of these
Bee-Nymphs & they all had raised Apollo, God of the Oracle of Delphi. There is much more to these Bee-Nymphs but as I said before I will come back and reblog this post again my dear friends and followers:o)
ArethusaThe Nymph called Arethusa was one of many
water Nymphs who attended Artemis. This Nymph was a Virgin Goddess and she had not
interest in men. So when the River God Alpheus pursued her, Arethusa the Nymph goddess of virginity asked for help - Artemis helped her by turning her into a fountain. Although the River God Alpheus,
could not be denied her so he changed himself to the flow underground so that he could touch her. I'll tell
you these Gods of the Greek times are kinda crazy when it comes to loveeeeeeeee!
Well I hope you found this post to be interesting as I have
I do plan to Reblog this because I believe there is lots of info
for me to come back here, I just have to get the energy to get all these
different Nymphs and spend a day or two at it but be surprised
Here a few images of Nymps for YOU!
