Cats~

Cats~
Cats have walked among us and lived around us for a millennium.
The Cat has been part of legend and Myth in the Egyptian Culture for centuries. It was death to kill a cat in such a culture of cat reverence,
for they were regarded as being the living examples of Bastet. If the Cat of the household died, it was customary for the householder to shave off his eyebrows and to mummify the Cat's body with the same care and respect as if would be shown to a human body - in mummify.
In ancient Thailand, the Cats had divine duties when it came to the Siamese Cats.
These Siamese Cats were traditional known to guard the sacred temples and palaces of Thailand.
In Eastern China, The Cat is seen as a shape-shifter. It is understood to be under a curse for not having when Buddha died.
In Japan, The Cat together with the fox and the badger, is also associated with shape-shifting [like that of the Eastern China Cat].but  these cats have trickery and the power to subdue ghosts and vampires too. In legend it is said that the Japanese sailors would keep a cat aboard their ship, to protect them from the sea monsters and ghosts.
There are many other stories and legends of the cat with the Japanese people, but I wanted to cover as many cultures as I could.
How among the Zoroastrians who believe that dogs are the animal that belongs to Ormuzd, defender of all that is Good! While the Cats! Are the animals which are beloved by Ahriman, who is the prosecutor
Of all that is Evil!
In Persian tradition, nearly all the false Gods are depicted with a cat head.
In Muslim belief, Its the Dog! That is outcast and cursed and the Cat
is respected for its received a blessing from the prophet Mohammed.
In Scandinavian tradition - the Cats would pull the chariot of the Norse goddess Freya.
In Celtic Tradition, the Cat often shows its troubling and punitive nature.
In American Indian Myth -
The younger brother of a Coyote is Wild Cat who is the patron of
stealth and scouting, but the tiger Cat/Cat Mountain is a symbol of
fierceness and ingratitude.
In Peru Myth-
The Cat is named Ccoa and is the spirit of the storms - hail and rains come from the eyes and ears of the Ccoa huge head of the Ccoa Cat head.
In South America /Chile -Is where a Cat monster lives in legend called the Guirivuiu. It has a tail that ends with a huge claw. It lives in the depths of deep pools in which they use to drag their pray with their huge claw into the deep water.
These are just a few of the Myth's, legends and traditions of the Cat.
I am sure they are more, but these were the ones that I could find. I

Gnomes~

Gnomes~
I have always loved Gnomes and thought it would be fun to do a
post
on these Magical Creatures. As another post on My Love for Magical

Creatures!
The Gnomes are said to be dwarfs or even goblins in my research, but I find that hard to believe. I myself would not put Gnomes in the same category as nasty goblins.

[ A Goblin - can be either small or quite large/huge, usually green, but they come in a variety of colors like red, brown earths. Which are common too. They  are a bipedal creature, the goblin is possessed of a keen cunning and although not often very wise,

Goblins tend toward the highly intelligent. Goblins can be also highly malicious, coming from a very competitive society. Some groups of the goblins will work together strongly under great leaders, whilst others may simply bicker and squabble amongst themselves. Goblins have a sharp and sometimes biting sense of humour. They are more likely to kill for food and it really doesn't matter what the food might be.]
But from what I understand about Gnomes they are workers of the earth and all its treasures just like the dwarfs.
In Indian belief, it is the Kubera who guards the earths treasures and who allows certain humans to find jewels and precious ores like gold and silver.
It seems that the most notably Gnome is that of the Egyptian Mythology. They are also divine - like called Geb and are the Earth Gods.
They have the characters of a dwarfish stature and have wrinkles like that of an old mans face.
The Fijian Veli live in an existence somewhere between the dwarfs and the fairies. Different parallel worlds you could say.
It is more likely that these Paracelsus created the category of the Gnomes after the earth - dwellers of his own land and culture - the mining dwarf.
Al thought today Gnomes have been seen only in gardens as
ornaments.
and as fun magical creatures in books. It  doesn't mean that they - The Gnomes - aren't hidden deep in the mountains doing what they do best, as they have always done thousands of years of mining in the depths of the earth and are still doing this to this day.
The Gnomes are said to be the guardians of the treasures of the mountains and will always be.
I also believe that the Gnomes are quite the family people too.
I hope that you all Enjoyed my Gnomes. And for the coming year of 2014 I will be doing much more of my Magical Creatures.
Much love to you my dear Friends and Readers...

Hummingbirds are great Pollinators-

Hummingbirds are great Pollinators-

Hummingbirds as do bee's play a very important role in our nature,
because both are responsible for pollinating certain kinds of flowers and plants. In nature our flowers and plants rely on insects, birds and other animals to pick up pollen from the anther of one flower to the other and then deliver it to the stigma of another.
With the Hummingbirds/Bees they are particularly well suited for this typed of the job. As they both fit among these flowers, feeding on nectar, they pick up grains of the pollen on their foreheads, bills and chins.
The pollen is then carried to the flowers of other plants and flowers. This is so very important, with the decline in the bee pollination of our food supply and also the hummingbirds.
It could be a  real problem for the coming year of 2014 if measures are not taken. We already have a huge food hunger problem around the world. With many feed the world programs.
The plant and the pollinator have a mutualistic relationship you could say and each derives an important benefit from one another - Plus for us humans too.
For the flower, the benefit is the transportation and appropriate placement of the pollen inside the flower. Which will ensure the reproduction of that flower, plant or food species.
As for our hummingbirds, the reward is in the form of the flower nectar.
A food source that is essential for its own survival.
Over millions of years, flowers have been evolving in thousands of different shapes, colors and enticing fragrance not to appeal to humanity, but rather to attract to the pollinators to ensure the life of the plant's survival.
Flowers that have evolved to be pollinated by hummingbirds usually have a slender tubular shape and are often the colors of red and orange.
Long, tubular flowers generally have more nectar at the base, which is much more difficult for the bees and other insects to reach these type of flowers, but the long bills and tongues of the tiny bee hummingbirds have adapted for these kinds flowers, in ways of getting to them sideways and even upside down. Making it very difficult for bees, butterflies, and other insects to get inside or to even land on these flowers.
But the hummingbirds of course have no problem at all getting to the nectar of these types of flowers; their advantage is being able to hover over, side or under these kind of flowers.
Hummingbirds will visit blooms of other colors too, such as purples, reds, blues etc., but most with go to the reddish hues.
FOR THE LOVE OF THE HUMMINGBIRDS!
Much love to you all my dear friends and Readers!
