Just because you can't see the magical creatures of the world doesn't mean there aren't there. They have always' been. That's where the magic is! Right in front of your Eyes...
The Naiad were the Nymphs of the Fresh waters- In Greek Mythology, the Naiads, were a type of nymph who preside over fountains, wells, springs and brook. They were known to be very ancient spirits that inhabited the still waters of marshes, ponds, and lagoon lakes. The essence of a Naiad was that they were bound to their body of water being that of a spring, brook, fountain or lake, the naiad could never ever leave their body of water or they would die. This would be also the case if their body of water they live in were to dry up the naiad would die with the lake too. These Naiads presided over rivers, streams brooks, springs, ponds, fountains waterfalls, lakes, ghettos, basically any type of freshwater body of water. The lifestyle of the Naiads~ The Naiad was intimately connected to her body of water and her existence seems to have depended
on it. If a stream, brook, fountain or lake dried up its Naiad will expire. The water over which Naiads presides were thought to be endowed with inspirational, medical or prophetic powers.
Whoever drank of these magical waters would be inspired, thus the Naiads were themselves considered prophetic and were frequently worshipped by the Ancient Greeks in association with divinities of fertility and growth. Hence all person in the state of rupture, such as madmen, poets seers and prophets were said to be caught by the Nymphs - Naiads Naiad's Reputation in Greek Mythology~ The Naiads can be quite dangerous and treacherous too. And were often known to exhibit jealous
tendencies toward men - mortal men. In the legend of Hylas -
The legendary Argon aught was lost when the Naiads seduced him and carried him away fascinated by his beauty. Another Fascinating legend about the Naiads is they were worshipped by the humans and youth at coming-of-age ceremonies. They used to dedicated their childish locks to the naiad of the local spring and many of them were attributed to magical or healing powers. The Naiads is just one of the many different
nymphs to the Greek mythology. later on in my writings I hope to cover all the different Greek Nymphs .. I hope that you find this interesting as much as I have.. and the beautiful images I have chosen to go with the post too. note. These are some of my favorite artist and are not my paintings Wendy.
The Sleeper
A midnight in the month of June, I stand beneath the mystic moon. An opiate vapor, dew, dim, Exhales from out her golden rim, And, softly dipping, drop by drop. Upon the quiet mountain top, Steals drowsily and musically Into the universal valley. The roseymary nods upon the grave; The lily lolls upon the wave; Wrapping the fog about its brest. The ruin molders into rest; Looking like Lethe, see! the lake A conscious slumber seems to take. And wonder not, for the world, awake, All Beauty sleeps!-and lo!where lies Irene, with here Destinies! O. lady bright! can it be right- This window open to the night? The wanton airs, from the tree-top, Laughingly through the lattice drop- The bodiless airs, a wizard rout, Flit through thy chamber in and out, and wave the curtain canopy so fitfully-so fearfully- above the closed and fringed lid 'Neath which they slumb' ring soul lies hid, That, o'er the floor and down the wall, Like ghosts the shadows rise and fall! Oh, lady dear, hast thou no fear? why and what art thou dreaming here? Sure thou art come O'er far-off seas, A wonder to these garden trees! Strange is thy pallor! strange thy dress, strange, above all, thy length of trees, And this all solemn silentness! The lady sleeps! oh may her sleep, Which is enduring, so be deep! Heaven have her in its sacred keep! This chamber changed for one more holy, This bed for more melancholy, I pray to God that she may lie Forever with unopened eye, While the pale sheet ghost go by! My love, she sleeps! may her sleep As it is lasting , so be deep! soft may the worms about her creep! Far in the forest, dim and old, For her may some tall vault unfold- Some vault that often has flung its black And winged panels fluttering back, Triumphant, o'er the crested palls, of her grand family funerals- Some Sepulchre, remote, alone Against whose portal she hath thrown, In childhood, many an idle stone Some tomb from out whose sounding door she ne'er shall force an echo more, Thrilling to think, poor child of sin! It was the dead who groaned within. posted by Wendy
Black Dragons TheBlack dragonhas a particular form of element that is based on their natural element that allows
them to adapted to any environment they choose that they are in based on the special natural element they have which is -(Energy) History~ These Black creatures of the night are part of the Earth Element family dragons- They say that they are the most civilized race of theblack dragons.Whichmake me believe that there are more than one type of species of theBlack Dragon.I just haven't found they other Yet! But until then. Here is thehistory of this particularBlack dragon. For the black dragons of the East - Black is a Chaotic color too. These dragons are said to cause lighting storms when they are fighting. Deathwings- These dragons are said to be Pure Evil. The Deathwingis one of the fiercest and most evil creatures
in existence today. He has destroyed many ancient cities and often makes deals with intelligent races, trading members of his own dragon flight crew for slaves and humans. And other interests in conceal different worlds.
Appearance~ They say that that theBlack Dragons are cruel with callous looking features, almost serpentine looking for some of these dark dragons. TheBlack Dragonsare quite large, thickly built with a massive chest and long, sensuous necks. It's hide is a rich and lustrous black with large scales that are supple yet hard as lava stones.
Black dragonsdo not shed individual scales, butrather molt once a year- Usually by spending a week resting within a lava flow of an active volcano, which will peel off andconsumes their discard skin, The skin of ablack dragonnearing its molted grows dull grey. Most Male- Black Dragonsappear with their horns and wings in a shade of a orange or brown. Most Female-Black Dragonsare black with their horns and wings being a purplish in color. But this isn't always the rule! There are some Black Dragonsthat areBlackfrom head to tail. These dragons are using called Deathwings.
A crest made of peaked bone spikes run from its head down it back all the way down to his enormous tail. And those bristles that run down his entire back to his tail, well when the great beast gets angry all of those spikes will pop out.
His fangs shine a coppery red and deep inside its massive jaws is a constant sulphurous light that emits a faint glow. Some say that theBlack Dragonhas the most powerful breathe of the world-
So strong that they can create and sustain Blue and White flames. There are very few dragons of the race that have ever been able to do this- They are also very resident. Their ability to pull pure energy from their surroundings allows them to survive where other dragons would not. There is a rumor that there essence turns into pure energy when they succumb to a fatal blow or die at an very old age. Element Power of Energy in their Environment~ TheseBlack dragonscan transform the Energy they gather from the relationships between the living
things that surround them and translate it into a particular effectively spells. They are also expert at deception and hiding, which is why they are seldom found. If they desire to remain hidden from prying eyes of other dragon kin or even human or elves's - their abilities extend to objects which can leave their lairs and the items of value extremely difficult to locate. My Thoughts on the Black Dragon~ Black dragonsare thought to be the most evil of all the other dragon race that I've have done. and I believe this will be true because of a number of reasons. 1) They have a deceptive way of doing things and are often doing these thing to meet their own needs. They are know as the Plight of the Land. Meaning they usually and are loathed by the people they live near. 2) When you think about it,Black Dragonsare like the undead - And considered evil simply because of their color. 3) Black is know as a color of evil typically. It represents dark and the chaotic too. These dragons are also known for clearly not like being in the open and are great a hiding in dark planes or cave etc. Which clearly has given their name as thedark dragons.
But to sum this up in my own opinion. I believethat thedark dragon orBlack dragonsare evil .Even with all this with the color. It doesn't really matter. I hope that you also enjoy the images that I have found.
The Artist have done a beautiful job as always. Note; they are not mine images... Wendy Cynthias Fairies and me
Dragons & Legends Mount Pilatus Mount Pilatus in the Swiss Alps This is a great true story that I found in my quest for 'The love of the Dragon!"
I hope that you all well enjoy this wonderful true story too about the legend of the Pilatus Dragons in the regions of Mount Pilatus~ The Mountain itself is quite grand at a height of 2132 feet above sea level. It was believed that in medieval times that there were dragons with healing powers that live in the rugged clefts and crevices of the Mount Pilatus. In the summer of 1421 a powerful dragon flew to mount Pilatus and landed so close to a farmer by the name of Stempflim that he fainted. When the farmer came to, he discovered a lump of coagulated blood and a dragon stone, the healing powers of which were officially confirmed in 1509. The chronicle of Petemann Etterlin tells how Regional Winkelried killed one of the Mount Pilatus dragons: He wrapped a spear with thorn twigs and thrust into the open mouth of the dragon, finishing the beast off with a sword. In the process drops of poisonous dragon's blood spurted onto his hand. These drops- And the poisonous breathe of the dying dragon - froze the blood in Winkelried's veins and he also met his death. In the early hours of the morning of 26 May 1 1499, a wondrous spectacle was seen in Lucerne; after a terrible thunderstorm, an enormous, wingless dragon rose out of the wild waters of the River Reuss at the Spreuer bridge, The beast had probably been taken by surprise by the thunderstorm and washed down from Mount Pilatus in the Krienbach, which flows, into the Reuss beneath the Jesuit church. Several - well respected and educated townspeople authenticated the truth of this story. HOW THE YOUNG COOPER WAS SAVED BY THE PILATUS DRAGONS~ One sunny day, a young Cooper arrived in the Pilatus Regions. It was late in the year and he was searching for rods with which to make barrel hoops in winter. Deep in his search, without thinking, he climbed higher and higher up the forbidden mountain. Not until dusk began to full he realize with horror that he was just beneath the summit. Terrified, he started to hurry downwards but stumbled and lost his footing. He tumbled down and down into a deep black void and finally lost consciousness when he came to, with a painful swelling on his forehead, the sun was already high in the heavens. But all he could see was a tiny glimpse of blue sky. He was trapped in a cave deep inside the mountain! The opening through which the daylight was shinning was far, far above his head. Oh no, what could that be? He peered deeper into the darkness of the cave and his blood froze in his veins! Two gigantic beasts with scaly bodies and fiery breath were staring at him. Believing his last moment had come, the cooper crossed himself, his hands shaking with fear as the beasts slowly drew closer and closer to his great astonishment, the enormous creatures meant him no harm. They sniffed him all over, curiously but gently, before again turning to lick at the moon-milk, welling rich and thick form the cave walls. And so the Cooper spent the next few months in the dragons den. Winter covered the Mountain with
ice and snow, but he remained quite snug and warm in the cave, eating the moon-milk and at night nestling like a baby into the warmth of the dragons huge bodies. One glorious day, the spring sun burst into the cave. Birds chirped joyfully outside and the sweet scent of the thousands of spring flowers stole into the depths of the Great Mountain. The dragons lifted their great horny heads and unfurled their mighty wings. One of them flew right out into the warm spring sunshine. But the second dragon came close to the cooper and snorted gently, as if to tell him that the time had come to leave their winter home. The cooper plucked up the courage, and grabbed hold of the dragons tail and suddenly they were both soaring in the fresh spring air, high above the cave. Carefully the dragon lowered him onto a flower - carpeted meadow. The young man waved to his winter companions for a last time before he took his heels running as fast as he could back to the valley. Such rejoicing as never before was heard in Lucerne as the copper's friends flung their arms around him. They had long given him up for Lost! He had to tell the incredible story of his rescue on the dreaded mountain over and over and over again.
Finally he had the tale of his adventure embroidered on a silken tunicle, still found to this day in the possession of the church of St. Leodegar in Lucerne. Ever since then, the Pilatus dragons have been revered as good - natured, helpful creatures . And sometimes, on a dark night, when the moon is playing hide and seek behind ragged clouds, a giant shadow passes across its face. Visitors to Mount Pilatus may just catch the faint sounds of the beating of leather wings. Should this happen and a trace of the beneficial power dust lightly dust over you when you visit this magical place indeed. Then you are indeed a very lucky person. Because it is said that you have be dusted by the Pilaus Dragons. When I found this story I fell in love with it. Also the history and the truth of what the descendants have to say in this story was wonderful. I just had to share. These images are of - Mount Pilatus and the tiny picture is of the church - St. Leodegar in Lucerne. I thought it would be fun for you all to see the actual Mountain that the dragons were in - And the Church where copper had his story embroidered on a silken tunicle for generations to come. I hope you all enjoyed this story as much as I did. To find more about the Mount Pilatus www.pilatus.ch/en/the-mountain/legends-myths/ Cynthias Faires and me
On my quest to find as many of these majestic creatures as I can-
"For the Love of the Dragon!" My next dragon is the very unique and not often heard ofIce Dragon. History~ These Amazing creatures live in Glaciers. They migrated from the Arctic to Antarctic regions to ensure that they stay in the darker regions, and a wintry climates. These dragons live in different kinds of Lairs to. But it isnt' that different if you really think about, given where they live. Normally they will find a enormous glacier that is facing the open sea or ocean that is higher up then the ocean levels. Sometimes they do find a iceberg for a lair but the are not usually big enough for their large bodies, so that's why the Ice dragons will look for the prefect glacier and will hollow it out with many tunnels deep within the glacier they have chosen for their home high up on a mountain in the Antarctic. Appearance~ These dragons can be either white, very lite blue dark blue, dark purple and pale pink. Their wings reflect the sun
when they fly but they have to fly at great heights for their wings to do this. When you look at the Ice dragons wings they will appear very thin and textured almost like the texture of snow. Their tail, claws and horns have the same icy white hide too.
When theIce Dragonswings do reflect the sunlight from those great heights in the very cold climates of the Antarctic, the animals below won't be able to see theIce Dragonbecause the sun rays are going right through his very thin textured wings. This makes it very easy for these dragons in the icy climate to find food and go hunting without his prey even seeing him. These dragons can also fly at great speeds. This could be due to their wings and how textured and thin there are. They are also very wide so they are able to maneuver quickly with those great speeds. Water Elements~ Ice dragons are part of the water element family and can do many things with the ice and water. These dragons can breathe ice shards that can pierce through anything. They can create Tsunamis
because they are part of the water element and they can create big waves that can appear in hurricanes. These unique dragons can even make so now by flying high up in the air and freeze the moisture into snow. Weapons~ These dragons have a strong icy blast of air and shards of ice. Diet~ When these beautiful dragons go on the hunt it will usually freeze its prey alive or dead because it likes its meal to be frozen.
It also freezes its prey because it might want to eat its prey later. So they keep it in their lairs for safe keeping during the long winter months. When these dragons hunt for seals, the seals tend to go underwater.
TheIce Dragonscan go after them but for only a limited about of time. This would give you an good idea why theIce Dragonslike the use of their strong icy blast weapon on the seals and all other animals. It makes for a quick freeze on their prey. Especially the seals - particularly due to the fact that they have a limited time in the ocean to chase after them. They most popular prey is polar bears, killer whales, giant quid, walrus, leopard seals. And really most anything they can blast with their icy breath for food in the long winter months. I found that theIce Dragonto have many different personality, when doing this post. This of course is in any species. But for some reason I found it to be more so in the Ice dragon, then in some of the other dragons that I have done. This might have to do with the different pieces of art that I have found on the Ice Dragon.
It seems with this installment of the Ice dragon, the Artists have made a variety of different personalities of this type of dragon. I found this to be very interesting . And I love the artwork too.
I hope you all enjoy this installment of my 'Love of the Dragon!' And the Artists photo's too. note: They are not mind.. Wendy Cynthias Fairies and Me
