Hestia Goddess

Hestia Goddess-
The Beautiful Goddess Hestia
Good Day my dear Friends & Followers, for today I am going to bring you all into the world of the Olympians by way of the Goddess Hestia. The Goddess of the Hearth or the fire burning of Hearth, it has said to be either way among the Gods of Olympians. She was regarded as one of the twelve great gods and she was another daughter of Kronus and Rhea. According to the Greek Mythology and the Olympians, the Goddess Hestia was the first born daughter of Rhea and therefore the first of the children that was swallowed by her father Kronus.  It seems that she was like Artemis and Athena, a Maiden Divinity and Goddess. From what I  find out, she was quite beautiful as all three sisters were - including herself, Hera and the Demeter too. It seems that she too had many suitors too. As Apollo and Poseidon had sued for her hand, however Hestia swore by her older brother Zeus to remain a virgin forever and in this character it was that her sacrifices consisted of only cows which were only one year old. I discovered that even thought the Goddess vowed that she would remain a virgin forever, she
The God Poseidon in which Goddess Hestia
and Poseidon are seen often at Mount Olympia
Still had connections with the powerful and known to be very handsome Apollo and Poseidon Gods of Olympus, which thus alluded to the legends of the Temple of Delphi where the three divinities were worshipped in common and Hestia and Poseidon did appeared together also at Mount Olympia. It seems besides the Mighty God of the Seas Poseidon - Hestia was often seen together with Hermes too; as a protecting the works of man.  I leads me to believe that Hestia was quite the Goddess and had many suitors both God and maybe even mortal. She sounds as if she was quite a beauty and even though she took the vow of chastity the Gods still loved to be around her.
As I dug a little deeper into the life of the beautiful Goddess Hestia I discovered that she was looked upon as the Hearth; as the sacred centre part of domestic life of both the Gods & their mortals. So it seems that Hestia was the Goddess of domestic life and the giver of all domestic happiness, blessing and as such she was believed to dwell in the inner part of every house to have invented the art of building houses. As the hearth of a house is at the same time the altar on which sacrifices are offered to the domestic Gods - Hestia was looked upon as presiding at all sacrifices. As the Goddess of all sacrifices of fire at the altar,
Goddess Hestia
She had a share in the sacrifices in all the temples of the Gods. Hence when any sacrifices were offered, Hestia was invoked first, and the first part of the sacrifice was always offered to the goddess. Solemn oaths were always sworn in by the Goddess of the hearth ~Hestia~ and the hearth itself was the sacred asylum where suppliants implored the protection of the inhabitants of the house. Basically The Goddess Hestia would always give protection to the homes of all the mortals at the time and give protection to all the inhabitants in the house too. She was also the Goddess that the mortals gave great offerings and sacrifices too to make sure their homes were safe. Hence by doing these great offerings and sacrifices the people would relieve solemn oaths sworn by the goddess of the Hearth and then all inhabitants of the house would be protected by her solemn oaths  and words... This could be extended to a town  or city too. Hence the people would likewise have a sacred hearth, the symbol of an harmonious community of citizens and of a common worship to their Goddess Hestia. There was another public hearth that exited in ancient Greece and these were called the Prytaneium in the center of town. This is where the Goddess had her especial sanctuary (thalamos), under the name of Prutanitis, with a statue and the sacred hearth too. This is where the prytanes would offer sacrifices to the Goddess and upon entering her private hearth Hestia would protect their suppliants. It seem that back in the day, as these public Hearth's were sacred in every town, so hence each state would receive their prytanes had all their sacrifices there too for the Goddess Hestia. When a colony was sent out, they always took the fire which burn in the sacred public Hearth with them, to their new home so that it would be blessed with the Goddess Hestia blessing.

guests from foreign ambassadors there, plus the
If ever the fire of the public hearth became extinct, it was not allowed to be light again with  ordinary fire, but by either fire produced by friction or by burning glasses drawing fire from the sun. Some have speculated in the ancients that the Goddess Hestia could be in someways like that of a divinity such as Gaea or her sister Demeter. Hence being the universe or the centre of the earth hearth in a mystical form of Warmth... As far as special temples that were just make
for the Greek Goddess Hestia, it seems that every Prytaneum was a sanctuary of the Beautiful Goddess. And it seems that all temples in Greece give a portion to the
goddess whatever the divinity they may offered it too, they all belong to her. She may have been a quiet and home body of goddess... However, she was an powerful Goddess and she was beloved by all the people of Greece in the ancient times.. Plus I believe she was also loved and respected by many of the Olympians too. I HOPE THAT YOU ALL

First Christmas Card~2014

First Christmas Card~
One of the first
Greeting Christmas
Cards 1870
Victorian
Good Afternoon my dear Friends & Followers, Happy December 1, '2014' and for today's post I thought I would start with a tale of the First Christmas Card. It seems that sending Christmas cards began in the Victorian period. However, there were wood engraves that produced Christmas prints with religious themes in Europe in the Middle Ages first.
Some have said these were the very first commercial Christmas & New Years Cards. There more my Friends! It is believed that these were designed and printed in London, England in the year 1843. The man who did these was prints was John Horsley, a British narrative painter and Royal Academician too. It seems that John Horsley had designed these very first Christmas cards in England between 1843-1903 the day of his death. I also discovered that these first Christmas cards were produced at the request of his friend - Sir Henry Cole.
Sir Henry Cole had suggested to his friend, John the idea of a special design to be sent to all of their friend at Christmas. So in the year 1843 there was a special edition (Christmas Card) made of 1,000 cards. These cards were printed and placed for sale in London to see what would happen? Well it seems at the time it worked very well. All those 1,000 cards that went on sale back in 1843 must have been a hit, because it seems that just one of those first cards that were sent in the late 1800's are
This is a copy of what those 1,000 cards

And that 1 of 18 that are still in exist 167-years
was sold for 7,000$ pretty good for
and old Christmas Xmas Card Eh!
Collector items today it the 21-century. There is known of 18 of those 1,000 card that still exist - 167 years ago.  One of those such Christmas cards was auctioned off by Sotheby's in 2010 and sold for 7,000$. What I found interesting about the first Christmas Cards, was actually two things:

1- The fact that after 167years out of 1,000 cards there are still 18 still in exist with our computer age.
2-The second is or fact - I found that though there was much excitement with the making and sending of the first Christmas cards, it wasn't an instant success. It even brought disapproval from the temperance League who feared the new Cards! would encourage Drunkenness!
It doesn't stop there! It seems that the following year - 1844 there were other picture makers and the Christmas Card was launched on the tide of Popular favor. However, it wasn't  until the idea had grown out of favor among artist and literary circles that it was taken up by a
Business 'man' by the name of Goodall.
This Business man Goodall and his company - Charles Goodall & Son was an highly known British publishing company in London at the time. Goodall and his company was one of the first to mass produce Christmas Cards to be sent World wide.
Then in 1866 is when Mr. Josiah Goodall commissioned Marcus & Company for an Lithograph for his company. This is what set in motion the many designers and the following years after that in Goodall company as the forerunners of today's Christmas Cards of TODAY!
I hope that you all found the founders of the First Christmas Card

Dagda-The Good God-

Dagda-The Good God-
God Dagda
Hello my dear Friends & Followers, for today's post I am going to bring you into the Celtic World of Dagda the father of  all the Celtics...
It seems that Dagda 'The Good God' was the preeminent Irish God and Father ruler of the Tuatha De' Danann. Besides being an Irish God and Father ruler of sorts it seems he could assume the older deity of himself too. So I would say that Dagda the Irish God got around in the ancient times in Ireland.
He did have other names too, however I am going to stick with the Dagda the Irish so that it doesn't get to confusing as some of these Gods in all Cultures can be sometimes... Too keep it simple keeps it easier for you my dear Friends and followers to read and Enjoy is my goal in my tales and stories of the different cultures of the Gods/Goddess ... I hope that works for you all Wendy..
While doing his tale I found that there was two stories about the Good God as the say... First I would have to say that Dagda is the most prominent of all the Celtic Gods, is the Leader of the Tuatha De' Danann . He was also consider the God of Earth and Treaties, an Master of Magic, plus a fearsome warrior too.
The Irish God Dagda was also considered the ruler over all Life and Death, Time and Protector  of the Crops of Ireland too. I also discovered that Dagda was the son of the Goddess Danus & the God Elada, father of the Goddess Brigid and God Aengus - his wife was Morrigan with whom mates only on News Year's Day. Intriguing that Dagda wife being the Red Morrigan Eh! well onward... I found that Quote that the Good God, had a insatiable need for women and food. He was portrayed wearing a brown tunic that reached his hips, and his was very proud of showing his private area too, while walking with a hooded cape that covered his shoulders and ware horse boots. Some believed he to be more of a crude and comical Irish God. So one would wonder is this God Dagda-The Good God truly the Prominent Celtic God and Earth God that the Irish would call an Good God.. To me its a bit confusing. But lets go on with the legend shall we...As I told you before he is a Master of Magic. The God Dagda had possessed three magick accoutrement's that were very important to him - The best known was his gigantic  phallic club which had the power to kill with one blow; although when reversed, a strike with the handle of the club it could give the dead - return to life. So say that the club of
The goddess Boann who
they had a son together
out of wedlock the
God of Love
'Forever Young
Dagda was so huge that it needed to be dragged about on a wheeled cart. His second magick prize was his Large Cauldron, which he would call 'Coire Ansic'. It was said that he had it always filled with whatever one desired to eat and it could never be emptied.
Finally his third and most prized possession was the Daurdabla, his magical Harp, in-which he named Uaithne, that he used to summon the seasons and played three types of music power to bring great joy & dreaming, great sorrow or profound prophetic sleep.
I also discovered in the legend of the God Dagda, there was a well know myth about him. Remember how much he loves the ladies, well this is one of those tales, Its seems that he went after the Goddess Boann [Elcmar's wife]. Well as the tale goes he had been with her so many times he had to stop because the Goddess Boann got pregnant with the God Dagda child. So afraid of being caught, during the nine months of her pregnancy the God Dagda kept away for a little while... until Aenghus - the (God of Love) was born. This is why Aegnus is always known a 'Forever young'- That is another tale that I think would be fun..
Like I have said before the God Dagda had huge appetites and these were both for his love of  food and women, he was insatiable.  Besides his food & women he also played a important part during the war against the Fomorians. Lugh had sent Dagda to spy on the Fomorians he also asked the God if he would distract them while they were in Ireland getting ready for the war. It seems that on his way to the Fomorian's war camps, he saw a most beautiful woman by the Unshim River in Corann, washing her feet. It just happened to be Morrigan. Well we all know about the
Morrigan
Morrigan don't we! I have done many of posts on this fine lady. Well it seem that the God Dagda and the Morriagan got it on! you could say.. They had sex many of times and after they were done, the Morriagn told Dagda about the Fomorian's plans of the war. There were many different myths & legends with this God Dagda with his love of women and food.
Dagda God
Magick Club/Cauldron
It seemed that the God would go to great lengths to have any woman that he wanted or food. It brings me to thing on the part they say Dagda-The Good God.. Why? well in my opinion he was more of the crude God that had a insatiable appetite women that weren't his for the taking at the times. The Irish God would go after other gods wife's and some much more..  Well I hope that You found this to be interesting my dear Friends & Followers.
