Tips From the Garden-HummingbirdTips

Tips From the Garden~
HummingbirdTips

For today's Saturdays Gardens Post I thought I would pull out my handy
bird book of secrets to help you all with your hummingbirds that you might have in your
backyards and porch's with the fall season. Many of these jewels of the
sky may be getting ready for their Southwestern migration route; for example despite
 the Ruby-throat hummingbird tiny size
 [4inches length; wingspan 5inches; weight 1/10 oz],
these jewels of the sky will migrate more than 1,850 miles
from the Eastern Coast of the U.S. - crossing 600 miles of ocean gulf of Mexico
to spend the winter in Central America.
The Ruby-Throats return to their breeding grounds just in time
according to same location they have always used to nest their young.
The Ruby-throats that live in the southern parts of the United States
begin their return of migration as early as February.
The Hummingbirds that live further North Time -
will return to coincide with the flowering of their food plants.
For me~ I have the Anna Hummingbird which I call Rosy.
Anna Hummingbirds are very common in the Pacific Northwest to British Columbia.
Some of you probably already know about my Rosy
The Anna hummingbird that has made his home
on my porch for the last 5 to 7 years. He did at one time migrate south in the fall, but now
he has stayed throughout all the seasons even when we have those few snow winters and that terrible
ice storm too! For those that aren't familiar with the Anna hummingbird - I thought I would give you all
a  brief summary about my Rosy. These Anna Hummingbirds are kinda a chunky or sturdy hummingbird
looking pretty fine with their bright metallic green backs and gray underparts.
Males[Rosy] have rose-red crows and throats. Basically their entree head, but the back part of
their head is covered with the metallic rose-red color that shines brilliantly in the sunlight.
Females are a little plain, but still beautiful. They usually show a small patch of the

metallic rose-red which is a small patch on their throat and tend to be more dingy gray
underneath than other hummingbirds.
These hummingbirds are more vocal that most other of the hummingbirds, the male Anna's
has a rather unmelodious song that is a series of repetitive scratichy notes which often
delivered while perched on a favorite tree or branch that is close by a
garden that he has decided that is his. And he will protect it from all other
hummingbirds that try to come in.. Only females are allowed, I have watched this with
Rosy and it very interesting to watch. One afternoon there was another male that came
by and I tell you my Rosy was not going to let that male say without letting him know
who's the boss of this tiny garden.
For his courtship display, the male Anna's hovers in midair, delivering his
buzzy song, then flies very high and then plummets towards the female.
At the end of the dive, he abruptly pulls up and makes a distinctive loud popping noise.
Some individuals Anna's will start nesting as early as December.
On a personal note I have yet to find my Rosy nesting area
around where I live and where he nests with his female partner in
December but, if i do you all will be the first to know because I will post it for you all...
Now for those Hummingbird tips~
1- You can use your coffee grounds from your coffee maker at home to help with
Ants.  Cut small pieces of  colorful fabric into square pieces. Then put a small
amount in each square pieces of fabric and tie with thick yard or string. After that
you just hang them around the feeders. The aroma will rid the area of Ants.
2-If you happen to have a pond in your backyard or on your small patio with a waterfall
that even can produces a light mist. I have read that hummingbirds
love to whiz through the mist and drink from the pond. So if you have a way of
putting a water element in your garden however large or tiny this is a great tip for
your tiny hummingbird friends.
3-If you plant lots of the Pink Chenille near their sugar-water feeders, as well as
Amaryllis, Bee Balm [red are are the best], Oriental Lilies and Hibiscus too.
It seems the hummingbirds love these and you with have great luck with these
flowering plants that will work either in an backyard or Pots on a patio too.
4-Another hint is hanging your hummingbird feeders in the Shady areas of your yard or
patio, which makes the homemade nectar stay fresh much longer when its in the shade
than in the sunny areas. Also by hanging your feeders where you can
reach them easily makes for fast and easy cleaning too.
5-Another tip for the garden is Morning Glories, Four-o'clock,
Gladiola's, Perennial Sweet Peas, Lantana and Turk's Caplilys they all are
great for your hummingbirds...
6-The Gold-Flame Honeysuckle Vine will attract loads of hummingbirds.
they prefer they nectar producing in these flowers to the sugar water bird feeders
7-Great tips for cleaning your hummingbird feeders~
In a larger pail with a light laundry detergent and water [follow the manufactures
directions for the proportions], immerse the dirty feeders for about an hour
then brush them clean and rinse well. I use white vinegar as a finally rinse.
It works very well for the problem spots of mold.
8-Finally I thought I would give you my homemade recipe for my hummingbirds
If you don't already have it hear it is again:
Its 1cup white sugar to 4 cups of water
*First put the 4cups of waters in a heat safe pot on the top of you stove,
when it comes to a boil add the 1cup of white sugar, stir the sugar until
it is all dissolved.
*Mix for 1min to make sure all the white sugar is dissolved.
*After the sugar is all dissolved take the pot off the heat to cool
*Once the mixture has cooled get a container ready to put the first patch into
the container and then repeat the process over till you have a full container of
sugar nectar for you hummingbirds. Keep in  your refrigerator.
If you want I added a teaspoon of orange extract to the
container after it is full and shake well. It give the nectar a unique taste
that my hummingbirds love..
As far as the food coloring it really is up to you some say it will
harm the hummingbirds beaks, others say they don't really need the color to
attract them to the sugar nectar. Then others say the food color is
not good for their health. So I will leave this one up you yur hummingbirds.
But I will give you what I have done over the years. At first I always used the Red food
coloring in my special homemade nectar. Then I read all the things above; so I
tried it without the food coloring for a couple of months ..
Well lets just say I am back to  using the red food dye that you use in food
that we eat ourselves. During that period my Rosy kinda left for a time.
Now he's back. so there you go.
Well I hope that You like my saturday Garden post

Tips From the Garden~ THE RED CARDINALS-

Tips From the Garden~
THE RED CARDINALS-
Red Cardinal
In this post for Tips From the Garden~ I have found a most beautiful bird that will brighten your
winter blues for the up coming fall/winter. They are the stunning Red Northern Cardinals Birds.
These amazing bright red birds seem to always take away those winter blues and make your winter a much more warmer and brighter one; Plus they will make your porch or backyards much more livelier.
If your are lucky enough to live in the areas of the Red Cardinals territory its really not difficult to lure these beauties to your Hollies Trees/Shrubs. Some of the best Hollies would be the Winterberry  which show the deciduous bright red berries throughout the winter for these beautiful Cardinals and they will stay in yur yard for the entire winter feeding on these different juicy red berries for your bird watching delight. In some of my other Tips from the Garden you will find other kinds of Hollies that I have put in my blog for you too.
Red Cardinals with the Red berries
in the winter
There are a few tips from the National Wildlife that will also help you during the winter months in helping the wildlife birds that will come to your yards and porches too. I hope that this tips I give you will help your for you gardens for the up coming fall and winter. These tips that I am going to give you involve the three key elements of Food/water/and shelter for your Red Cardinals that will visit your Gardens this winter. When doing a bit of research on these beauty's you might be surprised on hope diverse they are on their eating habits. Basically these birds will eat more than a hundred different types of seeds and fruits including  any
Feeders that you might put out for them too.
If you want to put Feeders I found out what kind of seed the Red Cardinals eat and how to make a
Feeder for these beauties too. First the seeds. These could be sunflower seeds; safflower seeds; cracked corn or even cut-up apples! How where and How to place these tasty treats for your new friends? I found out there are quite a few ways to place these treats for your Red Cardinals to find you tasty treats.  One way is to put them on a sturdy platform or hopper feeder near your Hollie Trees and Shrubs. This way the Cardinals can find them very easily. And of course the Holly Trees & Shrubs like the Winterberry are great too for your Red Cardinals because they will bare fruit the entire winter. Another item that I didn't think of but I discover for you
all in my Garden tips is water in the winter. It seems that the Red Cardinals use water on a daily basis for drinking and get this! BATHING IN THE WINTER! So I had to think about this one for you all my dears,
How do you keep water for your bird friend without it Freezing! The only thing that I did find which
I very much doubt that most folks would be able or world consider doing is maintaining a heated
birdbath. I thought that was kinda funny myself. An heating pad under a bird bathe in the dead of winter while its snowing and about oh! here it can get about lows 10'degrees but, in the upper northern area's were talking -20' 30 and I just don't see too many folks using a heating pad, but there is always the exception.
Finally for your tips of the Garden on the Red Cardinals I discovered that the birds prefer thickets and the
evergreens for roosting in the winter. So if you have this type of tree or shrub in your area or if your
thinking of getting a new wintery type shrub/tree one of these just might be the one for this Year!
When you do, you'll want to place it nearby a feeder if you have made one. It will make your Red Cardinals feel much more safe and comfortable in there new home.  Well I hope that you all will find a few helpful
tips for your gardens and yards even though the summer is coming to an end. I will still have Tips for the Garden Every Saturday for you.. It will be something different every saturday. What ever I might think of. I myself am thinking of getting a holly too. I will let you all know if I actually do.
Untill next time I hope I have given you some helpful tips and Happy Gardening
The link below is from my blog, it show all the Zones so that you can see what area's your
plants grow best. Love you all my dears, readers, friends and followers. I hope you have a great weekend

FLOWERFAIRIES

FLOWER FAIRIES
~FLOWER FAIRIES HAVING FUN~
I have always loved Flower Fairies, Why because they are so delicate and part of nature and our gardens. You may not know it but they are in are gardens all the time. You just can't see them. You have to open you eyes and heart just a little bit more and maybe one day you just might. As you know from reading my blog my dearest friends & followers Fae folk come in many different races, however, there is one race that comes in a variety that comes in many forms. And that happens to be the most beautiful Flower

Faeries. I pray that that I haven't done a post on these beauties for I have done so many on fairies, elves & dragons over the last almost 3years that my mind kinda forgets sometimes and for that I am truly sorry. As for these most beautiful fae's they happen to be the most wondrous known to man., There are a few known to us humans, such Bluebells.

The Bluebell Fairy: the Bluebells flowers who carpet the woodlands in who carpet the woodlands in

the late spring, create a shimmering azure haze in which thousands of fairies will dance in this area. This is

also similar to the hue of the human 'etheric', which is the part of the aura closest to the body

and is easiest to see.
the late spring, create a shimmering azure haze in which thousands of fairies will dance in this area. This is
also similar to the hue of the human 'etheric', which is the part of the aura closest to the body
and is easiest to see.

Buttercup Fairy:
 Buttercup flower/fairy brings you
awareness of your gifts and will help you
to feel more confident in your ability
that you already have within you.
You will be able to explore & express
your talents in this lifetime because of
these delicate fairies love of giving you
 these gifts. However, you must
 always keep an open mind,
heart and love in your heart for the
Buttercup fairy to come to you
The golden'Cup of this flower
 is full of magical bounty
and cheer. The buttercup fairy is
 compassionate & has a
very deep understanding
of human beings.

Clover Fairy
We are now at the Clover Fairy. Which I happen to like
quite a lot. The Cloverleaf flower has three loves & sometimes
as the Irish would say:[my grandmother Mary who was very
Irish 'the luck of the Irish' you may find a four-leafed clover
that is, which is extremely lucky. Such leaves are very rare,
and may be taken to symbolize the four Elements of Earth,
Fire, Air and Water which is very magical. Some have said
this four lobe Clover's are linked with the Triple
Goddess; Maiden, Mother and
Crone. They also carried
as a protective charm even the three-leaf Clover.
CLOVER FAIRY

Cowslip Fairy;
The Cowslip flowers/fairies come from the
a primrose variety of flowers, which
appear an in the late spring, & have a
potential to show indication of fairy activity.
So keep your eyes and ears open. As for your
ears, they could do something like make
your wind chimes move when there is no
wind or breeze in the air to get your attention.
As for the flowers they could be moving in ways
that you never were seen before.
The primrose fairies and the cowslip fairies have
a youthful innocence and to them so they will help to
keep youth in anyone who carries their blooms
in their gardens. So the Primrose & Cowslip flowers
would be a great spring flower.

DAISY'S
Daisy's are beautiful flowers & fairies. Daisy's
often will grow on lawns or grass and will always
spring back up after the winter grass has been cut
and the cold of winter. The daisy fairy is very robust
and does not worry about humans and their actions in
the world. For, this reason they
can be an effective guide into the fairy realms
of faiyland. Many of the other fairies are drawn
to daisies. This is the Daisy fairy special gift of
resilience and creativity.

DAFFODIL FAIRY'S
Daffodil's for one they are my momma's favorite
flower and for that, I have always had
daffodil's in my garden to remind me of
my wonderful mother that I talk to I hopes at
least 2 times a week if she isn't too busy. Yes
even in her retirement she
is very busy. They are quite beautiful so bright and
cheerful and Yellow!
The daffodil fairy blows the trumpet of the flowers
that ushers in the spring is here! As the fresh winds
toss the daffodil flowers, so does the daffodil fairies within
to bring in the message of clarity of new beginnings.
Daffodil fairies can help you not only understand you're true
potential, however, they also tell the world about it too.
To the daffodil fairy,
we are all beautiful and they help us all to see
ourselves in this way.

GORSE FAIRY
These flowers are year around and it is one of
the functions of the Gorse Fairy to be cheering, even
when the situation seems hopeless
These Gorse Fairies will avert despair and
show a light at the end of
any tunnel when all hope may be lost
in humans.

HEATHER FAIRIES
Well, were now at Heather Fairies. It is said
that to supply the Heather fairies &
other fairies so that they may feed on the
blooms of the Heather flowers,
 You must help
by growing them in your gardens. The
Faries do not literally feed on the plant, of flowers
of course, but they may well absorb its essence,
which is vibrant and protective to the fairies.

HONEYSUCKLE FAIRIES
The Honeysuckle fairies love their Honeysuckle
flowers most primitively because of the senses that
connect to the reptilian brain-stem, meaning these
flowers have the most beautiful Fragrance to
them than most of the flower fairies. These flowers
has great power to evoke old memories and buried
feelings. This is well understood by the
Honeysuckle Fairies

IRIS FAIRIES
These fairies are very
 special among
the inhabitants of
the Land of the Fairies.
The Iris was the Greek
 Goddess of the rainbow
and is more than a glorious
 showing forth of all
the colors of the spectrum.

It is also a bridge between this world
and the subtle realms of
which fairies are a part of.

LAVENDER FAIRIES
The Lavender flower is modest in appearance,
however, wonderfully fragrant like that of the
honeysuckle flower. Lavender has many
therapeutic and magical uses. It will soothe a
number of illness, from the headaches/migraines
to bee stings from bee's and rashes. It has an effect use
in cleansing your skin and calming the spirit.

LILAC FAIRIES
The lilac flowers have a nostalgic
scent that the lilac fairies use which will cause
humans to recall their past. It will also bring
back long-forgotten emotions back too.
Some of these emotions that the humans
that may be associated with their past
lives. The lilac fairy can awaken distantly
memories and enable you to realize that
you have lived before, loved and understand
before what happen with
the use of the lilac essence of the flower
and their magic.

LILY FARIES
Lily fairies bring great purity & spirituality to all.
These fairies have links with the angels,
who are cosmic messengers. In particular, they
are associated with the Archangel Angel Gabriel,
who is often depicted holding a lily

MARIGOLD FAIRIES
As I was doing the research on the Marigold
flowers and fairy I have discovered a number of
wonderful things about these flowers. Such as
home remedies & India Weddings use the beauty of these
flowers for their wedding for some time. I will
visit these other interesting area's of the Marigold
for other stories in a later time.
I myself have always had these beauties in my
Garden and always save the seeds for the spring
The Marigold Fairies are very Strengthening
and they are heartening creatures too.
They have powerful healing gifts of
bringing the warmth of the sun to
renew life an to restore your vigor.
Many folklore says that the Marigolds are
picked at noon which have the greatest
power then to comfort the heart/soul,
because at the time the Marigold fairies
will be able to reflect the potency of the
great Sun.

POPPY FAIRIES
I first remember the poppy from my
favorite Movie the 'Wizard of Oz' which
I watch even holiday season. With Dorothy, Toto
Scarecrow tinman and the lion. Can't forget the flying
monkeys' Oh, I have known
the movie by heart since I
was a child.
Well, that is a bit about me.
The Poppy fairies will bring

great and wondrous dreams and visions,
However, to use these properly, it requires
discrimination. What this means, the
fairies can bring confusion and even madness
or they can be correctly interpreted as
offering different perspectives on your life.
Not all these perspectives may be available
in the mortal state[human state if you will].
But they can provide inspiration and creativity
to you the humans.

PRIMROSE FAIRIES
The primrose flowers
 & Fairies
form a
very special portal to
the fairy realms & from
this a primrose-studded
bank around the time of
Spring Equinox it is a very good
a place to see fairies of all
races. Blue & Red
primroses growing in
the garden will attract fairies
too so keeping them in your garden would be
a great thing to do besides they will keep
the household from harm

ROSES
I have always loved Roses.
My momma
has a beautiful rose garden
that I have photography
many of time. As for the Rose
Faires they are
especially strong vibration to them
 could be because
of the beauty of the flowers and the
most beautify scents
that come from the many different
 roses in the world.
The Rose fairy has a particular
 power- Roses were
sacred to the Isis, in the times
of the Egyptian Goddess
Some have said the Roses/Isis
to be a complete
goddess-form ever evolved.

SNAPDRAGON FAIRIES
I have always loved the
snapdragons
probably because of the
 name thinking
at some point, these beautiful flowers would
turn into a friendly dragon.
I have always had them in my garden
but for the last couple of years. The snapdragon
fairies are quite a fiery fairy who can
help you to repel all negative energies within you.
If you were a snapdragon flower on your body
and no one will ever be able to pull the wool
over your eyes. As for the snapdragon fairies they
are far too cute and will burn away the dross,
to reveal the truth out of anyone the choose.

TULIP FAIRIES
Tulips are quite the thing in my
neck of the woods. We have great festivals
in the spring when the Tulip's come to bloom
here in Washington State. I myself Have never
been very good at the bulb growing a garden
and the Tulips. However, they are very beautiful.
The Tulip Fairy like so many fairies likes to
associate with love.
These Tulips are in the shaped like that of
a chalice and this is the 'loving cup' from
which tulip fairy encourages you to imbibe, to feeL the
blessings of Nature. One of the fairies messages
is to have the courage to be vulnerable,
because only in this way can any one of us
will ever know closeness and fulfillment.

VIOLET FAIRIES
Well, I really didn't think I would make
this long of post and for that, I hope you all
like the post on Flower fairies.
At, first I was just going to put the flower
in but after I did some research and found all
these beautiful flowers & fairies I just had to

include them all.
So It will probably take the whole page.
I am sorry about that I have lots of ideas for the
new year thought.
I have always loved Violets, I believe it
has to do with my momma and my sister Betty
who have always had them in their homes.
they bothe love the African Violets even
though they are hard to care for.
It would seem that the Violet Fairies
are the most modest & spirited of all.
The epitomizes all the qualities that are needed
to attract other fairies, such as
humility and simplicity.
In ancient Greece Violets were
worn to promote
tranquillity and facilitate
sleep.

I hope that you all enjoy
the Post  on the FlowerFairies
my dearest friends, readers, and followers.
As we come to the last two days of 2015
I just want to thank you for all your
support you have always given
me during my good and it seem of late
my not so good but I couldn't get through
the days without you all my dearest loves
I love you all so very much
Your Friend always & forever
WENDY
