Aido Wedo - Rainbow Serpent of Dahomey Mythology

Aido Wedo - Rainbow Serpent of Dahomey Mythology-
Aido Wedo - Rainbow Serpent
Well In my quest of my love for the Dragon! I have
found an African Dragon. African Dragons are more like Serpents or Giant snakes, but
they permeate the myths of the African tribes and even appear in the Egyptian pantheon as
Apep [Apophis]. The most accessible of the African Dragons is the Aido - Hwedo (Wedo) of
Dahomey in West Africa. These African Dragons are a rainbow - coloured and that is true for
both the male and female dragons. It was said that they were brought into the world by the
God Nana-Buluku to serve as his companion and instrument tin his Creation of the World & to hold up the World or Earth.
There's more to the tale so I hope I haven't lost you, the Rainbow African Dragon was the only
being capable of travelling  between Heaven and Earth. And the Dragon was able to Carry the
Creator God in its mouth as it passed between the two realms.
The two realms that the African Rainbow Dragon passing through represent the
links between the Sacred and the Secular. So while in the Heaven the Dragon is bent
across the sky as a rainbow arch and its dropping became mountains and fertile soil, plus its
Aido Wedo Rainbow Serpent
living in the oceans with his troop of
Red Monkeys
writhing passage formed the rivers and valleys. It seems that this African Rainbow dragon
was so enormous that it could hold up the entire world, but once the multitude of creation was
done Nana-Buluku asked Aido Wedo to coil up beneath the land to cushion it.
Of course Aido Wedo did as he was told, because he was a godly Dragon, but only after a while
the enormous Dragon couldn't handle the extreme heat that was under the world, so the
Creator Nana-Buluku made the oceans for his Dragon to live in. Note: Like the Midgard Serpent in
the Teutonic Legend. So the Aido Wedo Rainbow Serpent Dragon lived underseas all over the
oceans with a troop of Red Monkeys who forge the Iron Bars that are Aido Wedo food. Now
When the iron run out and Aido Wedo grows hungry he will start to chew on its own tail. This will cause
the earth above to become unbalance, also to be struck by repeated Earthquakes and if not feed,
the eventually slide off the Dragons bake into the sea. Note; the Aido Wedo African Rainbow dragon
name is by many Aido Wedo - Aido Hawedo - Danbala Wedo
 - Oshunmare Yoruban and Aido Hwedo.
I also found that this tale of the Rainbow Serpent can be found not only
in Africa, but in Australian and in Central and Southern America too. There
are even some version of the Rainbow Serpent where he's not in the heavens
holding up the world , rather he flies from a waterhole to waterhole bringing
rain to those regions that require it. There is also the proble of the name variations
too. It seems there is a question on the God/demigod .. It really all comes down
to what you the reader think might be true or not. My thoughts are it seems
that the most info was on the African Aido Wedo Rainbow dragon and I loved the legend too.
Well I hope that you all Enjoyed my newest post on my summer quest on
finding as many Dragons legends as I can for my loveof the DRAGON!
I love you all my dear friends and followers very much
I hope you all are having a wonderful summer

Apalala the River Dragon who was Converted to Buddhism-

Apalala *River Dragon who Converted to Buddhism-
The Apalala River Dragon
Apalala is a fascinating Indian River Dragon that I thought you my dear
friends and followers would find interesting. From what I cold tell you, in the Buddhist Mythology,
he was the only dragon ever to be converted to a human religion and by Buddha himself. It is said that the Apalala River Dragon lived near the Swat River in India where Buddha visited often. Apalala was an Indian Naga Dragon-A greenish dragon like creature with two legs, two arm and a long tail. Apalala had no wings and a human head. He lived by the Swat river and was the Guardian of the source of the Subhavastu River.
The legends have said many versions and it was very difficult to find what I did find for you.
In one legend it tells that Apalala was unhappy with his life. And It happened to be that very day when
Apalala turned into a
huge Dragon causing
destruction to the
people of India
Buddha himself came to call at the river that Apalala dwell in. And the Buddha actually spoke and had
a conversation with the River Dragon Apalala. This is when Apalala was then converted to Buddhism
found contentment. As the tale goes Apalala was very Happy so in gratitude the Dragon began using
his charms to keep the other powerful dragons of the area in check and protect the all the people of
the India region. After Buddha converted Apalala to the human religion of Buddhism, Apalala then set out to teach it to other dragons, but the other dragons drove him away. However they still allowed Apalala to still
continue to teach the humans. As most legends goes this went well at first. The people of India were very grateful and offered Apalala the River Dragon a tribute. Sadly over time the people of India started to take
Apalala for granted and eventually even forgot about him.  Well this angered the Dragon Apalala.
So he turned against humanity and prayed to become a poisonous dragon, causing storms and
destroying the land of the people. From what I understand this is one of the more popular legends in
Buddhist folklore. The tale is often told to Buddhist children for them to learn their happiness lies in
their faith and not to take anything for granted. So there is a moral to this tale of the
Apalala River Dragon who wanted to help the people of India.. Never take anything for
granted as the people of India did with the kindly Dragon Apalala did and then he
turned on them into a deadly Dragon causing destruction and terror to their homeland.
I hope that you all Enjoyed this post about the Apalala River Dragon. I love you all
my dear friends and followers very much..
