For Composting For my Tips for the Garden today I thought I would give you all an easy way to compost your own garden clippings,flowers trimmings, vegetables from the garden and of course all those veggie scraps, egg shells, stall breads, banana peels, old coffee grinds and Tea bags to be a few. Of course you can use all your use used fruited and vegetables after cooking too. It
is can be very simple to make your own compost bin.
In this post I have found a few images along the way to help you with
the building of your own compost bins too.
For the folks like myself that have lived in apt for over 18years its kinda hard
to figure out where or how to start a compost area - Now if you have your
own yard that is a whole different kind of composting and if you all are
interested in that type of composting too! please let me know by just writing me in the
comments or by email which is on my blog and I will go over the kind to in a
other post too.
However for most folks that live in apt or smaller homes/condos with not much
of a backyard for a garden or an compost- I have found away and I have lived
in a 1bedroom apt for years and been composting for almost 10year on my
small porch Garden. I have even adopted a couple of Anne' Hummingbirds
that have made their home on my porch and they don't go away for the
winter her in Seattle WA. and it can get cold her and sometimes even snow!

These Anne' Hummingbirds have made their home here for the past 7-10years.
So how to make a easy compost? What I have used for the last 10years plus+ is 2 blue very
thick plastic bins from any local market that sell containers.
What you will need; 1) 2 very large thick plastic Bins, with their lids.
2)6-8 short ceramic (I like ceramic because they don't rust but this is just a personal thing) or just empty food cans. Note the ceramic one I used old ceramic coffee mugs that we just didn't used any more, but you can always go to your local goodwill or
second hand store for cheap coffee much that are about tops 4inches high.
3)To start your compost, you will need to get a good bag of dirt to start - so 1 bag of either a small or medium dirt at your local store where sell soil of flowers etc.
4) You will need to drill small holes in one of the plastic bins that you have bought
at the local store and the other keep hole free. Note here is an image for
an idea of what it is to look like..
5)You'll need a plastic shovel. Why? because a metal one
will harm your Earth worm/Red worms. And you don't want
to harm your critters that are going to make great
dirt for you and eat your compost Eh!
6)Lastly You'll need to buy the worms for your new compost bin
that you have made, which in fact can last for years if you take care of
the bin and the worm inside. Like myself I have had the same blue
bin for over 10years and have had lots of great compost dirt
for my flowering plants, herbs, small tree and this year
a great Vegetable garden too.

with you. As for the type of worms that you choose for you
compost bin - Its really a matter of a option.
Some folks love the Earth worms which you can get at any plant section
of any store near you where you live. They also like them for fishing I am told too.
Just ask for Earthworm at your local planting store or fishing area of the store
and you should find them in a refrigerator to keep them cool. I have seen them
in white containers of either 15 to 30 Earthworms.
Another that my husband and I discovered just a couple for
years ago but just tried this year is the Red worms. This were at the time
a bit harder to find and expense too. However, how! they arent' and are
easy to find at your local plant nursery and they work AWESOME!
I have now tried both and I must say the the Red worms work much faster than
the Earthworms, since my husband surprised me with a container of
30 red worms. And since then the make more too. hehehheh.
In my bin I have both the Red worms and the Earth worms and they
get along just fine. However I would try the red worms if they are available to you.
I must say from the 10year of composting I have got the most rich soil
for my plants that I would never find at any store anywhere and they have
lasted years to here in my small apt for almost 18years this Nov.
Also I feel that I am helping in my own small way of our mother Gaea.
We all need to do something however BIG or small.
So I hope that my Composting post inspires lots of you out there to
find your ways to help our Earth Mother Gaea for the Children of tomorrow.

| How what this is use for? You can use any type of large coffee can that you used up and emptied and put your varies food scraps in this so you don't have to go to your compost bin every time. Its what I do |

| As to Making sure your Compost is moist, but not too wet I just add a cup of water once a week depending on how much compost I have put into that week. (Basically you have to eyeball it yourself) During the winter times I don't need to add as much and for times so the dirt doest freeze I put a blanket on the bin. |

| This is kinda like how I hope I have my compost set-up on my porch. although I have the lid on and its full of dirt food scrap/ and red/earth worms. You must find a place that is permit ant that the bin will not be moved because it will be very HEAVY! 1-The No-holes bin 2- Put the bin that has all the hole in the No-holes bin. on-top of the cans or ceramic mugs. 3-Find that place on your porch for its permit home 4-Add the bag of new dirt inside the inside bin - then add your food scraps and then the worms. This could be either the Red worms or Earth worms 5- add your veggies Scrap and more and always keep the lid on to keep out the pests. |
