Hera Goddess of the Olympias

Hera Goddess of the Olympias-
Hera the Goddess of the Olympias
For today's Post I thought I would bring you all my dears, Friends, Readers & Followers to the Greek Gods/Goddess of the Olympias. Hera Goddess of of all the Goddess of Mount Olympia & wife of Zeus GreekMythology; or under my labels on on the right hand side on the very bottom of the blog...
God of all the Gods of the Olympias. I have done a few of the different Olympias, however I haven't gotten to Hera herself. So I thought I would today. After today If you want to find this post you can always find under the tab on the top called;
Hera [Here is how it is pronounced in Greek] is said to some to be purely a Greek divinty, However I will get more into that later. I thought I would give you a bit of her history first. Hera was born the eldest daughter of Krono's and Rhea and was the sister of the Three Brothers that would take over their father Kingdom of Mount Olympian. They were Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. However it seems that Hera was called Hestia by her father Krono's and that she was also the twin-sister of Zeus. That is something I didn't know myself. So how did Hera and Zeus End-up together? There are many different theory's that I have read and research but I found this to be the most interesting and I hope that you find that too. It seems that Hera was brought up by the Oceanus and Thetys, as Zeus had usurped the throne of their Father Krono's; Afterwards Hera became his wife; without the knowledge of their parents Krono's and Rhea.
It seems that after her rescue from being swallowed by her father Krono's [I've done the Story of Krono's If your curious to read it. Here is the link so you don't have to look to far;             http://wendyjargonncom.blogspot.com/search/label/Kronos%20the%20king%20of%20the%20Titans.] there was much more to the tale of Hera that I didn't know when doing the post of her father Krono's. According to what I found she was brought up by Temenus the son of Pelasgus. However there is other stories that say she was brought up by other Gods/Goddess with her other sisters/ Hestia & Demeter by the river of
Hera and Zeus in the beginning of the Marriage
Asterion. Soon when she became of age is when Her marriage with Zeus came about. Her marriage to the God/ her Oldest Brother Zeus, who had freed all his brothers and sisters from his own Father Krono's had many meaning from what I could guess. The problem was understanding what they all meant in the sorta Greek language that the write about the union of the two siblings. This is what what I could understand that was important for the marriage of Hera and Zeus; It was to act as a prominent part in the worship of Hera under Hiros Gamos; on that occasion all the Gods honoured the bride with presents, and presented Hera with a Tree with Golden apples, which was guarded by the Hesperides in Hera Garden. It seems that after the marriage to Zeus she was treated by all the Olympians including her other 2-older brothers Poseidon and Hades as the Queen or Goddesses of Olympian. Although Hades I wouldn't count as being an Olympian he had his own World the Underworld...  At any rate, Hera was given the same reverence as her husband Zeus himself. Which she very much Enjoyed. Zeus would listen to her counsels, and her communicated his secrets to Hera rather than to the other gods his brothers Poseidon and Hades. Of course Hera also thought herself justified in censuring Zeus when ever he would consult others without letting her know about such things.. The one thing I that I
Hera Having to obey Zeus unconditionally
Even as the Queen Goddess of the Olympias
would say that the Goddess is far inferior to Zeus or for that matter any of her other brother is Godly Powers. As I read many times about the Gods/Goddess of the Olympias I can't remember ever that the Sisters of the brother Zeus, Poseidon and Hades  having any of the Godly powers that they have. Not one of them Hera,Hestia and Demeter. [Well the Demeter has some godly powers my notwithstanding as their brothers].I also discovered that Hera must obey Zeus unconditionally and like the Gods, Hera is chastised by Zeus when she has offended him. And must do as he please even as the Queen Goddess of the Olympians. So Hence Hera the Queen Goddess of Olympians, in my opinion is not or was ever in the same light as Zeus. If you truly thing about it Zeus was the Queen of Gods, Goddess and Mortal men and Hera was simply the wife of a supreme God. If you have a look at the old masters Artist oil painting they tell the story much more clearly than in now in the 21st century. I guess Hera power of queen of the heaven with regal wealth and power came much much later in the Greek age, but in the being it wasn't the fairytale that some would have thought.
Hera In her later Year of Power
It seems that later much, much later in the marriage Hera possessed similar powers as Zeus and she is able to confer the power of prophecy. Like in the beinging of their marriage she is innocence and kind; well over the years her character changes with that of Zeus's infidelity with their Royal Bedroom Chamber. So she becomes not of a very amiable personality and  its main features are jealously, obstinacy and alot of quarrelling or yelling between the two Gods. Hence there were arise for frequent disputes between Hera and Zeus. Most of these disputes were that of Zeus infidelity with the many lovers that Zeus had after the quote honeymoon was over' .... Zeus would try to hind many hundreds of either goddess, nymphs or sometimes even mortal women in their royal bedroom when Hera was away.. But of course Zeus would always get catch and the one that would be punished which I never understood was the women, but maybe that is just how it was in the ancient day of the gods.
There were a few stories in which Hera tries to show a bit of her Queen like power of dispute against her husband - One time she happened to get the help of Poseidon and Athena to contemplated putting Zeus into chains, but in all cases, only threatens, but still yet Hera is beaten by this act. And even once Zeus had hung her up in the clouds, her hands chained and with two anvils suspended from her feet. It seems that this goes back and forth thru the ages of the Gods/Goddess of the Olympias. She gives in for a while then when able, she has an recourse to even more cunning and intrigues.. This must have gone on for ages between the to of them.
Even with all the stuff they went thru, Hera was the only real married Goddess among the Olympians.
Aphrodite well she didn' t marry one of the 3-brothers of Krono's God from His Father Ouranos of the Sky & Gaea Mother Earth. So hence the Goddess Hera gave birth to Several Godly Children. Several were that of Eileithuia, Gamelia, Zugia, Teleia to be a few which all had the characters of the Goddess Hera. And Eileithyiae are described as her daughters. Hera most favorite thing to do was to ride on a chariot of drawn horses and her favorite places won earth were Argos, Sparta, Mycenae and Paris. She didn't care much for the Trojans and the Trojan war. It is said that she was on the side with the Greek and even saw help from the Oceanus to help with their enormous waves. Of course she didn' t care much for Heracles - and that will be another tale. I found that Hera has many sanctuaries and is worshipped in many parts of Greece.
Respectfully looking at Hera in the ancient times some would regard her as the personification of the Queen of heavens or the Goddess of the stars/ and moons. She has even been seen with Ceres, Diana and Proserpina. Some say she is the Goddess of nature too.  Truly Hera was a strong Goddess in her on right. She had a hard part to fill when she became the Queen of all the Goddess. And with that I think she did the best she could within the times.  I hope that

Celtic Calendar

Celtic Calendar-
For today's post I am going to bring you to the Celtic Days with a quote Everyday. I hope you  like the idea{o:) I thought besides my For the Garden on Saturdays I would bring to you a little more with the Celtic ways. I do have a Scott in my heritage which I am very proud of. I do hope you all Enjoy this new Idea {o:)
First before I actually start my Celtic days, I thought I would give you a bit of history on the Celtic Calendar if you will.  To start the Celtic Calendar is always; These were called the Gages of the YEAR.
Samhain; The Winter quarter as they called it-
November, December and January
Imbolic; The spring quarter as they call it-
February, March and April
Beltane: The Summer quarter as they called it-
May, June and July
Lughnasadh; The Autumn quarter as they called it-
August, September and October.
Each of the Celtic Gages or Gateway was as they are called too/ to mark the four periods of the Calendar year. Well correspond to the growth cycle of rest; sprouting; burgeoning and fruiting too. One may think it to be odd to have a calendar year to start in November, but for the Celtics - these were made many centuries ago as gateways to follow the lunar cycle of the moon which underlies their whole agricultural year. Meaning their calendar year ends and begins in late Autumn when the Harvest is over and the soil is prepared for the winter planting.
Of course Each of the Seasons have their own traditional characteristics too-
Samhain; Is the period of ancestral communion and introspection-
Imbolic; Is associated with beginning and primal innocence-
Beltane; Is a period for creative and powerful expression-
Lughnasadh; Is associated with maturity and consolidation.
Besides the Seasons the different Gateways marks the movement of the Sun &Moon which was
Used quite often if not everyday in ancient Celtic days. And even today in modern days too.
Marks of the movement of the Sun and Moon-
September 21st
Autumn Equinoxes-
 December 21st
Winter Solstices/Yule-
March 21st
Spring Equinoxes-
June 21st
Summer Solstices-

I hope that you all Enjoyed my post and will look for my up coming '
quotes for the daily Celtic to brighten your day Yur WENDY{o:)

The Lamia

The Lamia-
The Lamia in one of her many forms
In my next tale I will bring you to the beautiful story/sad story of Lamai. It seems that its origins has many different folktales within the Greek Mythology. It seems that the main story that most folktales come from
and the Greeks tale the story is that of Lamia -was a Libyan Queen who was loved by the God Zeus. However, when Zeus's Jealous wife the Goddess Hera learned of their affair she stole away her children. So
You would image how the Libyan Queen would have felt when her children were taken from her. In those ancient times it wasn't easy of women to have children.. The child bearing years were very difficult.. So It is said that Lamia went mad with grief and tore out her own beautiful eyes when she could not find her children.
So In a nut shell of sorts - LA'MIA - LAMIA -Daughter of God of Water/Oceans Poseidon, she became by Zeus; God of all Gods the Mother of the Sibyl Herophile. After becoming the Mother of Sibyl; Herophile/female Phantom by which all children were frightened - According to the ancient traditions; She was originally a beautiful Libyan queen of great beauty and the daughter of Belus. Lamia was beloved by
Zeus, and Hera his Queen in her jealousy robbed her of her children. Lamia, from revenge and despair, robbed others of their children, and murdered them savagely cruelty in which she now indulged rendered her ugly and her face became fearfully distorted because of her hatred, revenge and despair of loosing her own
The Lamia as Lamiae
when she would shape shift into

artifices to attracted young men
then enjoy their pure flesh
and blood
children. Lamia had let it consume her very soul it seems. It was said that Zeus gave her the power of taking her eyes out of her head and putting them back again when need.

There are some ancients that called her the mother of Scylla, but In later times Lamiae as she was called was
conceived as a very attractive ghostly woman who would by her voluptuous artifices ways attracted young handsome men, in order to enjoy their young fresh, Youthful and pure flesh and blood. is what she craved.  Thus the ancient Vampires legends were born. I will have a link below that will give you a bit more info on this subject... But of course there is more to this tale... In this part of the tale of Lamia I am going to talk a bit about the women of Greek Mythology and their plight of being born beautiful/this could be either an Queen; Princess; Nymphs or all types; Muses; or just lovers humans. Some how they all manage to get into the sight of the Almighty God Zeus. And as we all know Zeus get what he wants all the time in the ancient days of Greece. One of his favorite things to do was to entertain young beautiful women/girls/lovers and bring them into his royal bedroom chambers on Mount Olympian. The problem was these beautiful young girls/women of all types were the ones that would get blamed afterward. Never did Zeus get blamed for his infidelity to his wife Hera the Goddess of Mount Olympian. So the story of Lamia was actually typical in the life of all woman of ancient Greece that caught the great God Zeus eye. Even today we will never really know when Lamia as the Queen of Libya came to Zeus by choice or by force. This seems to be the pattern to many of
Zeus affairs. As in all his affairs Hera took her anger out on the Innocent young women/girls that were
probably force into their bed chamber. Of course this has ran its course even to modern times.. It seems like
The Lamia as a beauty with
 the snake at the waist
that everyone in someway were connected to each other in the ancient Greek times like Lamia being the daughter of the God of Poseidon.. It is said that before being transformed into the horrible monster - according to other version of the legend that when Lamia remove her eyes and put them back in again at will
the Lamia was then again a beautiful young woman again and could attract the attention of the gods even Zeus himself.  I found doing this post that there were many different versions from many writers. Some say the  Lamia was a shark others a snake, serpent's tail that began at the waist.. its truly hard to tell who is telling the true. they all are for she probably was all of these different creatures. It seems that the myth of the
The Lamia
Seduce men to drink their
BLOOD
Lamia became less of a monster about devouring children around the world in full to more on the
sucking of just their blood. So there became the vampire figure of ancient times, rumors of her presence were used by mothers in ancient  Greece to scare their young ones - probably to get to them to behave kinda like our bogeyman ...So there you have the Lamia throughout Greek Mythology History for ever changing in time shifting and changing over time and so has the legend/myth of the Lamia too As she has changed to a vampire to a more modern time monster. So instead of having a serpent tail, shark, dragon etc - Lamia remains as finally as a beautiful woman type of monster as she is depicted 'The  1909 painting The Lamia by Herbert James Draper - and was said to seduce men to order to drink their blood and drain their life -'  So the tale of the Lamia has gone full circle, from a beautiful maiden to monster that eats all children for vengeance of her own without a care to later; again a beauty maiden that is the first of the legends of vampires that seduced young men in order to drink their blood.  It is a strange thing how the world works and how we see what a monster might be to ones eyes! Looking at Herbert James Draper painting  of the Lamia as on of the first 'monsters of the Vampires its hard for me to see her as a monster compared to the 21st century and all our are high tech ... movies, TV. and even paintings. It seems that it was a much more innocence time then with monsters...etc. I hope anyways that you all  Enjoyed this post on the Lamia. I will try my best my dears to write more fun, interesting stories and tales for you all my dears readers, friends and followers Your

Echidna

Echidna-
Echidna 'Mother of all Monsters'
In this post my dears, I am going to bring you to Echidna. There have been many different versions of her
tale in Greek Mythology but, I found this account to be the most appealing and I would like to thing the most truth. Echidna parents were said to be Peiras and Styx long ago in the Age of the Gods of Zeus and Goddess of Hera. Echidna was a Drakaina, with the face and torso of a beautiful woman [sometimes said to be that of a beautiful Nymph on top] and the body of a serpent. Echidna - in Greek mean Exiova - ekhis - meaning 'she is a viper'. Who is a legendary monster in Greek Mythology. "MOTHER OF ALL MONSTERS''. because most of the monsters in Greek mythology were believed to be her offspring. You may ask why?  its because the Gods described her as the Goddess fierce Echidna who is half a nymph with lusting eyes, fair cheeks and a sexual bodes. Then below her half again a huge snake, great and awful , with speckled skin. Eating raw flesh beneath the secret parts of the holy earth of her cave, that is deep down under a hollow rock far from the gods/goddess and all mortal men. There is where the Gods appointed her a glorious house to dwell in. And of course Echidna keeps guard of her home in Arima beneath the earth. In other versions of this tale some say Echidna was the daughter of Tartarus and Gaea/ or Ceto and Phorcys/Chrysaor and the naiad Challirhoe. It's really hard to tell it been so long ago. All we know is that is is the Mother of all the Monsters of the Greek Mythology. And the Gods/Goddess had placed her in high ranks to give her a grand home secret cave to live out her days in. The site of her cave was called 'Arima.' Now life wasn't always calm and quite for the Mother of all Monsters even though she was in a good light of sorts with Zeus God of the Olympians. There is one story that I did find about Echidna, that
Echidna in her Cave
Zeus had to punish her. Its seems that Echidna and her mate Typhon, went to attacked the Olympians. So Zeus had to beat them back and punish them. He punished Echidna lover Typhon by sealing him under Mount Etna. However, Zeus allowed Echidna and her children to live as a challenge to to future heroes.  There were other stories according to the different gods and goddess of the Olympians. One of these stories was being that she was immortal and a ageless beautiful nymph - Echinda used to 'carry off passers to her cave' until she was finally killed where she slept by the Argus Panoptes the hundred-eyed giant. Of course there are many other stories of Echidna being that she is the mother of all monsters. It would be to hard to but all their offspring and stories in one post. So what I thought I would do is just name a few for you all; Echidna was the mother by Typhon by many
monstrous offspring; The two-headed dog; Cerberus - the many-headed dog which guarded the gates of Hades; The Lernaean Hydra - many-headed sea monster which when one of its heads was cut off grew two more; The Chimera - the fire breathing beast that was part lion,part goat and had a snake-head tail; Caucasian Eagle ;  The Crommyonian Sow; The Gorgon; The Colchian Dragon - that guarded the Golden Fleece;  The Teumessian Fox -A fox that was destined never to be caught;
Finally one of last of her offspring I think that rather interesting is that Ladon the dragon which guarded the Golden Apples in the Garden of the Hesperides. So there you have the Mother of all Monsters of the Greek Gods/Goddess of the Olympians. Most famous was her dragon that guarded the Golden Apples of Hesperos; the Hydra - the many-headed dragon/serpent; The Chimaera; The Orthus a hell-dog; And the
Cerberus - an more famous of the hell-dog with three heads; The Crommyonian Sow; the Cancasus Eagle and finally the Nemean Lion. Echidna was at times definitely a creepy and scary monster Yet beautiful monster of sorts with her beautiful Nymph upper half on top. She live with her mate Typhon [this was the monster who had challenged all the Greek Gods and ended up under Mt. Aetna or having it thrown on top of him by Zeus himself in a cave in Scythia. Which ended the happy relationship between Echindna and Typhon.  However as I have noted above Zeus allowed Echidna and her children future monsters to live in her home cave to challenge future heroes. In fact that is what happened in Greek history.. So my dears,
Readers, Friends and Followers I hope that you find this Mother of all Monsters Echidna interesting as
I did myself I hope to find more interesting tales & stories for you all .I love you all very much your WENDY
