Legend of the Oracle of Delphi

Legend of the Oracle of Delphi-
Oracle of Delphi
Good evening my dearest friends & followers and welcome to my humble blog again today. I am going to bring you all back about 2000 BC with the the very famous story and legend of the Greek Oracle of Delphi. The other night after supper time, when I spend my time knitting and time watching T.V. with my family I happen to be watching on the history-2 channel after my son had gone to bed about the legend/myths of the Oracle of Delphi of Greece. So with that said, on with the story my dears... So where do we start? Some have said that the Oracle itself has many legends of being centered around the world! However, I am going to start this tale where most folks including myself remembers that tale to start & that would be the Sacred city of Apollo. It may have started in Apollo's sacred city but how the chain of the Oracles power started became around 1400 BC .
Oracle of Delphi
and her Scrolls
And this is when the Oracle of Delphi received her godly powers. By who? Well read on and I hope I will be able to answer that question for you all and for myself. As there are many different myths to how the Oracle of Delphi became and I will go through as many as I can find~ However I also believe it is important to talk about the beginnings of how his all came about so that you all will have a better understanding of the Greek Gods if you haven't studied them or read about them. I have always been fascinated with the Greeks and their Gods... I hope to do more on the Greeks and their Gods. I have done a few but I know there is so much more that I can write about them for you all! So as the legend goes when Rhea the Titian Goddess gave birth to her six children ~ the Olympian Gods [Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter and Hestia]. Kronos their father the Titian God took each one as they were born and swallowed them whole because he heard a prophecy that his Youngest son would overthrow him and his thrown. Of course the Titian God Kronos wasn't going to let that happen. However, his with and the Titian Goddess Rhea was disgusted by this, so when she gave birth to Zeus, her youngest, and six child she fed the God Kronos a rock wrapped in blankets and then hid the baby Zeus away until he was full grown. Being that they were all immortal Gods, Zeus's siblings Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter and Hestia were growing up in Kronos's stomach. So when Zeus was fully grown he tricked his father Kronos into drinking a mixture of mustard and wine. After drinking the special drink, that Zeus prepared for his father Krono's he regurgitated all 5 sisters & brother that he had ate when they were born. Even the rock that Rhea had fed him as a disguise in order to save Zeus was regurgitated too. It is said that the very rock was and still remains in the temple of Apollo at Delphi. I would to honor the fact that Zeus was able to save his brothers and sisters and see the prophecy through that was foretold.
As I get now into the legends of the Oracle & how there is said to be some strange myths about the Oracle of Delphi, I will try to tell as many as the legends that have been foretold about this amazing Greek Goddess. To this day some locals still believe the tales to the Oracle Delphi and that she was reincarnated from life to life.

The mysterious Acheron River, next on the journey, is symbolized in Greek mythology as the River Styx or the river of the underworld where Charon rowed the dead across to Hades. Visit the Oracle of the Dead, the mystical sanctuary of Hades and Persephone where guidance for the future was given from souls that had passed over.
The Necromanteion was the most famous sanctuary of its kind in antiquity and was visited by many pilgrims including Odysseus who wished to connect with Achilles spirit

At the end of the caverns
And there was a special place for the Gods to meet and for the common folks to Greece too. I have done an post on the God Apollo if you are interested in reading it someday and I will put the link in this post so that you can check it out.wendyjargonncom.blogspot.com/search/label/Apollo%20Sun%20God
Apollo was a very Good and popular God with the Olympias. There were always people bringing him gifts and praying to him.
Apollo The God of Sun
The God was just about as exhausted by all the affection that he was getting by the humans and the honor that he was receiving. Apollo simply could not keep up with all the prophecies and giving the prays and hopes to the people of Greece. It was taking too much out of him, even for a immortal god! So Apollo decided he needed someone to speak the prophecies for him, to be his voice to the people of Greece, to share his power of the future... someone like an
Oracle!... The Greeks had many Oracles, but never one that Apollo himself gave power too! So it was given in those ancient times over 2,000 year before Christ that Apollo was one of the first Greek Gods to give and share his power with a maiden that would begin the line of the Oracles of Delphi.
The Oracle of Delphi
Of course it came with a price;  this was that though  woman could basically live in the temple and give the offerings of prophecies, however she could never answer yes or no to any of her prophecies. It was probably do to the fact that she was a woman in the day of very ancient times and this was very knew is my guess.  Lets go on with the tale So with that her prophecies were often very vague or hard to understand what they meant. [Basically the people had a hard time understanding what there Pythia meant or future]. Of course there are many other myths/legends to the Apollo and Delphi Oracle story. This one states that Apollo had just killed a python when the oracle future of the oracle just began. He had rid the world of the horrible monster causing chaos on earth. After Apollo slew the Demon, he cast the body into a Styx River. He then brought his high priestess Delphi to breath in the fumes coming from a chasm, Apollo said 'it was the center of the universe'.
Delphi went into a frenzied state, but she could then see the future. After this Apollo called Delphi Priestess and the Oracles came to the Python in honor of the python he had slain. In the day it was said that the fumes coming from the chasm were the python's remains.
There was another legend about Apollo's Temple with Delphi that was said to be along with the Oracle Delphi. In the temple, was one of the most important items 'a stone'. This stone! was supposedly was the rock that Kronos, Lord & God of the Titans had swallowed whole thinking it was his last born child by Rhea. Instead he was tricked and indeed swallowed the stoned covered with baby blankets. So that the prophecy did in fact came true, that his Son Zeus took over his father Kronos position as Lord and God of the Olympians.
In the times of the Ancient Greeks & Romans when they had to make major decisions they would aways consulted the Gods of Olympian by drawing lots, casting dice, or interpreting their dreams. Also by analyzing such signs as sneezes, thunderbolts & flying birds. However for matters of the utmost
importance, the people of Greece and Roman they would always sought to hear the words of the Gods in the mouths of Oracles. This could have been the Oracle of Delphi, however there were many Oracles of Pythias. They were all virgins who dedicated their lives to prophesying on behalf of the God Apollo.
The First Pythia Oracle
The Goddess Themis  5th century
B.C.
The First Oracle was said to have been the goddess Themis who is depicted in the fifth-century B.C . In this image I was able to find she is shown sitting on a tripod holding a bowl & a spring of a laurel tree, which is from Apollo sacred tree.
It is said that the Pythia Oracles had dealt with more visions of the right choices than visions of the future; for example~ where to find a new home, when to attack an enemy or go to war, how to lift a curse, whom to choose a leader, what kinda offering should they give to which Gods. In those ancient times there was no Kingdom, city or even a private citizen that could afford to make any critical decisions without the consult of the Oracle. Its seems that the Oracle of Delphi became the richest and most famous of all the Oracles. The Greeks of even today call her the Omphalos or Navel of the World'.
Oracle of Delphi
You all may wonder ~ How could a mere mortal command such respect? Well the answer lies all in the God Apollo ~ the God of revelation and inspiration who used the Oracle as his mouthpiece for taking possession of her during oracular sessions. This is basically how the oracle Delphi became so famous. She would fall into a trance and the words she spoke were supposedly those of the God Apollo, and were delivered in a voice very unlike her normal tones and only the God Apollo could understand what she was saying.
Basically this also can date back to the Oracle of Zeus to an intensely sacred site and the energy center that dates back 5,000 years or more. Many rituals were performed here and were similar to those of the Druid priests in Britain and Gaul.
So I know there is so much more to tell about this legend but I thing I have covered it the best I could. I hope
That you all enjoyed the Legend of the
Oracle of Delphi and the God Apollo.

Hamadryads~NymphsTrees

Hamadryads~NymphsTrees
Tree nymphs whose life is bound to many different
kinda of trees~mostly Oaks & Hawthorne. These tree nymphs
are called either Hamadryads or Dryads.
The Hamadryads are bound to the tree, whose life they
share with the tree. In Greek Mythology times these
Hamadryads Trees Nymphs would be an, beautiful
female at the upper part of the Oak tree or Hawthorne, while
the lower would usually be the trunks and roots of the tree that

bound them into the earth.
So if there were ever a fire, the tree was damaged by illness or
even cut down, the tree nymph~hamadryad would die with the tree.
Dryads~TreeNymphs

These are the guardians and the tree spirits of the trees
in both Greek Mythic Times and Modern times too.
The Dryads are able to leave their tree and wonder or dance
in the groves of the forest near by their tree. They are often
described as companions to the Moon Goddess Artemis
and they will also sometimes accompany the God of Wine Dionysus.
These Tree Dryads Nymphs are considered unlucky to see them
or to remain in their company.

Why? because they are very bewitching and luring
nymphs. Also, they are very protective of the forest.
I have a poem for you all called...
~Entwined~
Twisting, twined, tangled & tumbling towards the
yearning skies,
Like lovers locked in a long embrace, their

leaves draw rustling sighs as hundreds
of thousands of years have marked their journey on the rings

that have spiraled out from the mingled heartwood in the
song that they sing.
Dryad, allow your spindly arms to embrace,
crystal pearls
A lovely, frighted maiden rests
guard her with twisted curls ,
soothing mists with twisted creats
recall lost fleet of spawn;
the winged race, reptilians pests sing, lullaby's into dawn.
Time soon forgets, the hour swirls
upon a shimmering lawn
Freckled by mushrooms of the rainbow hiding till
all mortals faces are gone.
I hope that You all like the poem and
post of the Hamadryads~dryads I love you all

ZEUS

ZEUS-
Zeus
Hello my dear Friends & Followers for my first post of 2015, I am going to bring you into the world of the Olympians. And The Greatest of the Olympians Gods, and the father of god and men, was the son of Kronos, brother of Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter and Hera and at the same time married his sister Hera! Yes Zeus! It is said that Zeus was the greatest of all the Olympian Gods, and the father of gods and mortal men/women and children of ancient Greece. He was the son of Kronos and Rhea, plus the brother of Poseidon and Hades. The eldest of the brothers and of all 6 of Rhea children that she tried to protect from her titian husband Kronos, who was determined to be the God & Ruler of Olympia forever, hence the gods have internal life. Well as you know in the story Zeus saved all his brothers and sisters (Hestia, Demeter and the youngest Hera for which he ends up marring a bit later. After Zeus had saved his brothers and sisters and were adults and had put their father in exile on an island for the rest of his days. The siblings, well Zeus and his brothers distributed among themselves the government of the world both heavenly and earthly by lot. Poseidon would obtained the seas of the earth and Hades the underworld and Zeus the Heavens and the upper regions, however the earth became common ground to all. It seems in the history of the great God Zeus, there were Mythologises the thought there to be three Zeus in their genealogies. Two Arcadian one and one Cretan. The first is said to be a son of an Aether, the second of Coelus (Uranus) and the third of Saturnus (Cronos). These writers at the time felt this so, hence since
The Great and Powerful Zeus
the King of the heavens Zeus could send - dew, rain, snow, thunder and of course his most famous lighting from the heavens itself in its physical sense. Of course this is all up to opinion and if or not it did happen, we will never know. However, it is a interesting thought...
The Mighty Zeus of Lighting
It was believed, like that of all the other Olympian gods and goddess who dwelt on Mount Olympus that their home had lofty connected with the summit into heaven itself. Now this is just a matter of opinion, but he was the Great God Zeus too. Zeus was called the father of all gods and men - Aeschylus, the most high and powerful among the immortals whom all other obey. He was the Highest ruler, who with his counsel managed everything! The founder of kingly power, of law and order, hence Dice, Themis and Nemesis are his assistants.
It seems that his assistants help him with the meeting of the council as he presides over the whole state of these meeting. Zeus is the watcher and protector of every house and family of the entire world. Hence these meeting seem to help him keep watch over the sanctity of the mortals of Earth. Also the laws of hospitality, and protected suppliants that are provided for the mortals too. It seems that Zeus is quite aware of his people both on Mount Olympus and
the his mortal men/women on earth. He knew exactly what they all were doing at the time at every moment. He will avenged those who were wronged by some law that was broken and hence punished those who had committed a crime to do harm. In someways you could say the god is always watching the doing and suffering of all men. I did discover a little bit more about the character
of the great Zeus, it seems that to the Great God, everything good as well as bad comes from Zeus himself, and according to his own choice he assigns their good or evil lot to mortals and fate itself was subordinate to him because of this...
Hera and Zeus
On there Wedding night
As everybody knows his armor was thunder and lighting, plus the shaking of his aegis produces enormous storms and tempest lighting storms. It is said a number of epithets of Zeus in the Homeric poems is describe him as the thunderer and gatherer of clouds for his enormous lighting storms. As later in life Zeus decides that he need to have a wife to rule his kingdom of the heavens of Olympias. There aren't to many suitors Goddess that would even come close to his standards. So he had his eye on his youngest sister Hera. Feeling this would be a perfect match for him and for the Royal dynasty's of Mount Olympians. Well the Great Zeus was half
Zeus & Hera in the early
part of their Marriage
right. It was a big deal in the heavens of Mount Olympians. Everybody was very happy and joyous for the union. Even Rhea their mother was very please. There ever a few goddess that weren't but that is another tale... Hera was quite a bit younger than her older brother and had not been around men before so it was a bit awkward for them on there wedding night. But as the years went on she became quite the Queen of Mount Olympian.  As you can see in the early parts of her marriage to the Great Zeus she was quite
subservient, fearful, frightened yet a little alluring at the same time. After a few years, Hera, had two son,  Ares and Hephaestus and one daughter  Hebe with Zeus. Of course you probably have heard the rumors
of all of Zeus lovers that he had brought to his very wedding bed when Hera was not around. This is what made Hera grow-up fast and into a very cold hearted woman. Who would blame her... You can read more about the Goddess Hera if you would like if you just look at this link
wendyjargonncom.blogspot.com/2014/09/hera-goddess-of-olympias.html
Zeus and Hera in love making
The Goddess Hera basically having to obey
Zeus unconditionally in the beginning of the marriage
It seems even when they had their children Hera had to obey Zeus unconditionally even though she was the Goddess Queen of the Olympian. You could see how this could cause many confections between the two, as who had the most power of whom in mount Olympian and the mortals on earth. It was life time war between the two that never went away till the day they each died. Hera sometimes acted as an very independent divinity, she is ambitious and rebels against her lord & husband the Mighty God Zeus. However, she is nevertheless inferior to him(Zeus)and is punished for her opposition against his amours with other goddesses or mortal woman who are not concealed from her. Thought even thought it all, the two are quite generally rouses by her jealousy and
Hera on her Throne
revenge. During the Trojan war Zeus, at the request of Thetis, favoured the Trojans, until
Agamemnon made good the wrong he had done to Achilles.
Rhea
Zeus Mother
Zeus, no doubt, was originally a god of a portion of nature, whence the oak with its eatable fruit and the fertile doves were sacred to him at Dodona and in Arcadia hence also rain, storms, and the seasons were regarded as his work and hence the Cretan stories of milk, honey and cornucopia, were a primitive personification of certain powers of Zeus himself. Well, a little bit on the up raising of the youth of Zeus. Some say the youth was born and brought up on Mount Dicte, however most believe that the great God Zeus was born on Mount Olympian with his mother Rhea and Father Kronos. Zeus was the only child of six children that his father had swallowed because of his father's pride of never wanting any of his offspring to overtake his throne. But Rhea was also a very cunning Goddess and wanted to safe her children, so with council from her high order, she was able to trick the Titan God into believing that his last born after swallowing the baby was really a stone rapped in blanket. According to most, people believed that Zeus grew up on the island of Crete after his birth. The history of Greek gods say that he was set to be raised at Delphi.  Mount Parnassus a mountain in central Greece. Iancient times, sacred to Dionysus, Apollo, and the Muses, with the Castalian Springs and Delphi on its slopes. This is where the mighty youth Zeus was raised in secret from his father Kronos. It was there that he learned his great power as a young god. It is also when the Cyclopes was delivered from the bonds that he was set by Zeus's father Kronos, which he was forever grateful to the mighty Zeus. Which in their gratitude provided Zeus with the thunder and lighting power and a deep friendship with the Cyclopes.  Later, Zeus liberated the hundred-armed
Zeus Learning to Use
his new Powers of
Lighting & Thunder
Gigantes, Briareos, Cottus and Gyes that they might assist him in  his fight against the Titans. Because of this the Titans were conquered by the Olympians and shut down in Tartarus where they were henceforth guarded by the Hecatoncheires, including Zeus father Krones. It was then that Zeus obtained and dominion the world of both the heavens and the mortals of the Earth. Now that Zeus dominated the world, he decided to chose what I would call a second wife Metis. The reason I say this is because he has already taken a wife Hera, his youngest sister. But being the God of  the world and the Olympians he can chose to do what ever he pleased. I must say this, I havent' heard of his wife Metis till I did this post, so it is all very interesting to me and I hope for you! As the tale to Zeus continues its seems that when Metis, was pregnant with their first child Athena, Zeus took the child out of her body and concealed the child Athena in his as own, on the advice of Uranus who told Zeus him that thereby he would retain he supremacy of the world even though he was Married to Hera. For it seems that Metis had also given girth to a son, this son(so fate had ordained it) would have acquired the sovereignty. So After this happened, well it gets a bit confusing, but I hope to explain it as best as I can; by his second wife Themis(3rd from Hera) Zeus became the father of the Horae and Moerae of the Charites by Eurynome of Persephone by Demeter of the Muses by Mnemosyne of Apollo and Artemis by Leto and of Hebe, Ares and Eileithyia by Hera. Crazy enough Athena was then said to be born out of the head of Zeus - while Hera on the other hand, gave birth to Hephaestus without the co-operation of Zeus. Well I know its a bit odd and crazy family but then again what family

Zeus /Jupiter
doesn't have some sort of weird in their family. Then again the Gods did have it over the top.

It seems as I learn more about the might Zeus and his family, that according to the family of the Cronidae, they embraced all twelve of the great Gods of Olympus, Zeus being the head of the lot, then Poseidon, Apollo, Ares, Hermes, Hephaestus, Hestia, Demeter, Aphrodite ,Persephone, Hera, and Athena.
These twelve Olympian Gods, who in some places were worshipped as a body, as at Athens, were recognized not only by the Greeks but were adopted also by the Romans, who in particular identified their Jupiter with Zeus.
He was a very exotic God in my opinion being that he had so many lovers and wife plus he ruled the heavens and the earth of mortal men, women and children. Which he had quite a few of them both god, goddess and half god too. There is so much more I could write about the Might god Zeus but there are other gods, goddess and half gods that I haven't gotten to yet.
I hope that you all Enjoy the post on the Mighty Zeus of Olympian. I do Enjoy doing these
post on the Gods/Goddess and half gods of Greece Mythology.

Goddess Artemis

Goddess Artemis-
Goddess Artemis
Good Afternoon my Dear Friends and Followers for today's post I am going into the Legend of the Goddess Artemis on an Request of a New friend. So have a sit, relax and have a good read on the Goddess Artemis...
The Goddess Artemis was the Daughter of Zeus and Leto, twin sister of Apollo. And was born on the island of Ortygia translation Delos Greek island, where Leto had found shelter after being hunted by the lawful wife of Zeus, Hera. As soon as Artemis was born, she helped her mother Leto give birth to her twin brother, thereby becoming the protector of childbirth and labour. Soon after her brothers Apollo birth, Artemis asked her father Zeus to grant her eternal Chastity and Virginity, thence never gave into any potential lovers and was devoted to hunting, thee moon and nature environment. Artemis rejected marriage and love. I found in a lot ways the Goddess Artemis was like the eldest daughter Hestia. According to the Greek Mythology and the Olympians, the Goddess Hestia was the first born daughter of Rhea and Kronus.  She to, asked Zeus for Divine eternal Chastity and Virginity. To be a Divinity Maiden and Goddess. The Goddess Hestia was also the goddess of the Goddess of the hearth ~Hestia~ and the hearth itself was the sacred asylum where suppliants implored the protection of the inhabitants of the house. Basically The Goddess Hestia would always give protection to the homes of all the mortals at the time and give protection to all the inhabitants in the house too.
So hence both goddess Artemis and Hestia were protector's of the Gods of Greece and of
Goddess Artemis
Olympias in a sorta kinda way. The Goddess Artemis was the protector of Nature and the hunt; both wild and tame animals were under her protection. She also was the protector of the lakes, marshes, agriculture, birds & animal herding too.  It seems that the beautiful Goddess Artemis appeared in a number of different myths/legends. She was the patron of the girl-child, and her health and well-being, entertainment and protection. She would embodied the spirit of hunting, and was the huntress of souls. She protected the wild places and the animals within these places; to her she was known the deep places in Nature where one could rest and regain their strength. The Romans equated her with the Goddess Diana.
The Goddess Artemis was also the Goddess of Disease, sickness and sudden death in maidens. In later Hellenistic times, she became a goddess of childbirth and fertility, assuming the role of the Goddess Eileithyia. She was often depicted with an crescent of the moon above
her forehead and was also identified with Selene (Goddess of the Moon). Her main vocation was to roam in the mountain forests and to uncultivated land with her nymphs in attendance,
for hunting for lions, panthers, hinds and stags. Contradictory to the hunting of the animals, she also helped in protecting and seeing to their well-being,safety and reproduction of new animals within her forest. She was armed with bows and arrows which were made by
The Beautiful Goddess Artemis
Hephaestus and the Cyclopes. Violence for itself was abhorrent to her, however she was swift to deal out punishment to her offenders, especially those who threatened or harassed women both mortal, nymphs and goddess too. It seems that the Goddess Artemis besides being quite beautiful and brilliant from a very early age, she gained the appreciation of most of the other gods of Olympus other than maybe Hera. Since the age of 3-years , the goddess had specific requirements relating to the clothing, equipment and the sequence of her most favorite activity which was hunting. She was a child who knew what she wanted and was very stable and rigid in her decisions. Also her father Zeus admired her for her perseverance and because of her versatility, the Great God Zeus and Father, harbored a great affection for her and was satisfying all her desires. As I have meant early in the post, one of the greatest gifts that her Father, the Great God Zeus gave to her was the eternal purity and virginity at the request of her daughter Artemis. She keep her word to her father by being faithful and steady in what she wished and committed to, the maiden Goddess Artemis never tarnished her ethics or even her character. Serious and proud, she maintained her purity, defying any erotic sieges and assaults. Since she was so dedicated to hunting and all nature, the goddess was unconcerned about the joys of marriage and the pleasures of love. She also demanded this innocence and virginity not only of herself but of her Nymphs that surrounded her and those that would honor her with their services as well.
Goddess Artemis
Changing Alpheus the
River God into a Stag
However, there was a time that the Goddess was faced with an incident. In which the relentless goddess was put to test with her principles, of that she almost never forgave anyone. What I mean by this is: Any impropriety against her or any of her devoted Nymphs that surrounded her and believed her principles would deserved her punishment. What I mean by this is that her deadly arrows would continuously aim at either mortals, god, and heroes who would ignored her existence or neglected her principles and worship.
Of Course there would be a time someone would see the beautiful Goddess bathing nude and the stories be hided the tale are many... I know of three versions...
As I said there were many versions of the Goddess and suitors that would try to show their affection to the virgin Goddess. OF all the Gods and men, there was only but one that had won her heart, and that was Orion. Only he was accidentally killed by either the Goddess herself or Gaea  with an Scorpion. How, the the myths goes is, that the River god Alpheus, was in love with the goddess Artemis, however, when he realized that he could do nothing to win her heart. He decided to capture her. So Artemis, who was with her companions at Letrenoi, went to Alpheus, and suspicious of the River gods motives, she covered her face with mud so that the river god didn't recognize her. In another tale of the rape of the goddess, Alphaeus tried to rape Artemis attendant Arethusa. So Artemis pitied Arethusa and saved her by transforming Arethusa into a spring in the Artemis temple, Artemis Alphaea in Letrini, where the goddess and her attendants drank. Well, the tale doesn't end there my friends! Bouphagus, the son of the Titan Iapetus, saw the goddess Artemis and thought about raping her too. Reading his sinful thoughts, Artemis struck him at Mount Pholoe. Then there was the myth of Actaeon, he was a hunting companion too of the beautiful goddess Artemis - and at some point he too saw the goddess naked bathing in a spring and tried to rape her too. As a punishment for this hunter, the goddess transformed him into a stag and his hounds killed him. Other version say that the goddess dogs kill him well in a stag form. I have found in all the different companions that the goddess had in her hunting, it seems that Orion was the only person to have won her heart
One of the Versions of the Death of her
many suitors
However he was killed accidentally. One will never really known if she would have keep her vow of Chasity with her love for Orion. Lastly is the tale of Aktaionas, the of Autonois and Aristaeus, happened to see the Goddess Artemis naked, in the time she was taking her bath.
The Goddess, fearing that the incident would spread, transformed him into a deer and put his fifty dogs that always accompanied him to devour him.
In another case I found, Callisto, daughter of Lycaon and one of the attendants and followers of the Goddess Artemis in their hunts and thus she to had remained a virgin as well. Apparently Callisto was nearly killed by the arrows of the Goddess Artemis, because she was seduced by Zeus. Well, there of course is more to this tale. Zeus, can you believe this? Change changing his form to resemble Artemis, managed to seduce and rape her, impregnating her too. Callisto gave birth to Arcas, but later she was transformed into a bear either by Hera or Goddess Artemis. Arcas almost killed his mother, but Zeus stopped him and placed Callisto into the heavens as a constellation. According to other sources, both Callisto and Arcas were turned into the Ursa Minor and the Ursa Major Hippolytus, who was dedicated and worshiped her.
The Beautiful
Goddess Artemis
Constellations. This sickens me, that Zeus would do such a think to his daughter of Chasity and profound love to her father the Great God Zeus. To find a way to in secret to impregnate the Goddess Artemis, when over all those years she did everything to please her father the the Great King of the Gods. Shows how the female goddess are by far more powerful in their own right, and that for some reason the great Zeus might of felt threatened so maybe that is why he did it? For what ever reason I had to put in my two sense in.. opinion. Wendy. Finally, were back to Orion, the son of Poseidon, who was tragically killed, because according to a myth he had mated with the goddess of dawn Enos. or it could be that he might have boasted that he was a bit better than the goddess Artemis at archery. However, the Goddess had a soft spot for all children and adolescents too. Young men and women who maintained their innocence and who lived according to her principle were always favored and were constantly under her protection too. Indeed, even though Hippolytus, was a keen hunter and horse tamer, he had dedicated his life tot he beautiful Goddess Artemis and the ideals that she professed too. Even during that time with the goddess, there was no challenge between them, no woman was ever able to lure him away. Not even, Phaedra wife of Theseus, wasn't able to charm or seduce the hunter Hippolytus. His exemplary behavior touched the goddess who gave him prizes, glory and eternal memory to his name after his death. It seems that the Goddess faced many challenges in her life as a Goddess. When she had to face with reluctance the duel between her brother and Poseidon it was with a very negative attitude. Mostly because it was her twin bother was to face the Might God of all the seas and it seems that the one who was involved with the whole duel was Hera. The Goddess was so enraged at her behavior and furiously she started beating her with her own arrows.
Goddess Artemis
Food, Animals harvest
One of the main features of this goddess was the Universal souvenirs of all nature. This means all Domestic and wild animals, fish in the waters and birds in the air were all under the goddess protection. As the goddess and protector of all nature - she was also considered responsible for both agriculture and for all livestock on the earth as well. Well, it seemed that some areas of worship were starting to fail and verger away from the goddess ways, from the bountiful harvest and fertile of animals. So in contrast, many of the area's of Greece didn't comply with their obligations toward the goddess worship and care for the land. Hence by disregarding that she even existed they had to face the vengeful, rage and fury of the goddess Artemis, which meant the destruction of all their crops, food, and herds of animals that brought food. One or two final thoughts on the Goddess, it seems that Admetus and Oineas faced the anger of the Goddess Artemis, because of the neglect and indifference that they showed toward her. It seems that at Admetus wedding feast, he had forgotten to do a sacrifice, as required to the Goddess Artemis of every joyous occasion back in ancient times. Well, this just fueled the fire you could say for the Goddess Artemis, very angry by this irregularity, she sent to his bridal bedroom a herd of snakes, while she prepared to take his life, Apollo tried in vain to calm her down. Well, eventually Admetus persuaded the Fates to spare his life and in return to get someone Else's, that is close to him life. The only one that was willing was his wife Alcestis, who offered her life to the Fates. However, in the very last moments before Admetus wife Alcestis on their wedding day was to go before Hades descending into his world, Heracles intervention and saved Alcestis. So There you have the goddess Artemis who was one of the most beautiful and most elegant goddess of Olympus. The ancient Greeks really admired her. They imagined her tall, with graceful beauty, imperious posture and proud walking too. Overall she was very energetic, hard and restless goddess. I hope that you all Enjoy the post on the Goddess
