Mysterious Mermaids~

Mysterious Mermaids~
~Mysterious Mermaids~
Hello My Dear Friends and Followers I have found a tale about Mysterious Mermaids
and Hanuman a Famous Monkey King of Hindu Mythology, who is the son of the God Shiva.
I hope that you all will enjoy the tale.. As the story goes Queen Sita was kidnapped and the King Rama enlists Hanuman aid into rescuing her.  After much thought and questioning the Court, Hanuman discovers that the Queen Sita has been captive on the island of Sri Lanka. After Hanuman informs King Rama where his Queen is being held captive, he orders
him to build a causeway to the Island of Sri Lanka from India so that the King' army can attack and rescue his Queen. So in not disappointing his King, Hanuman collected his band of monkeys and they started to throwing huge boulders into the sea near the island of Sri Lanka to make a foundation for the causeway. However, after a few days Hanuman's monkeys noticed something was going wrong. They discovered that each day that they threw the huge boulders into the sea, to make the foundation for the causeway, the next day they were all gone!  So the Monkeys decided to report this to Hanuman. So after his Monkeys told him about the problem with the building of the causeway, he asked for volunteers to join him to

investigate the Causeway while he instructed the monkeys to continue to throw more boulders near the island of Sri lanka. To the surprise of Hanuman several volunteers steeped forward and at that point Hanuman leaded them all into the sea. They all swam to the underwater caverns there they were building the causeway far off where his monkeys were throwing the huge boulders into the sea. To their surprise, they found a very large number of mermaids
under the water near the Island of Sri Lanka. The men decided to watch and see what the mermaids were doing to the causeway that they were trying to build...As they watch, a huge boulder would be tossed clear out of the sea. It was the mermaids underwater that were destroying all their work and carry all the heavy boulders away every day! Besides the fact it was quite amazing that these beautiful creatures were able to move such heavy objects. It also angered Hanuman that this is what was happening and didn't really know how to stop them.
After observing them for awhile, he spots an especially lovely mermaid supervising the

others. As he swam towards her, he noticed that she skillfully evades his advances. So he tries again and again, but he is unable to get close enough to head Mermaid.
So Hanuman started a new approach, he respected the head Mermaids abilities and by this maybe she would come to him.. However during all of this he found himself falling in love with
the beautiful creature.  Hanuman decided to change his approach once again and began to silently woo her. And to his surprise the mermaid responded to him. Very soon the two of them were together at the bottom of the sea. After they were down there for a while, Hanuman ask the Mermaid why she was stealing all the huge Rocks? After a few moments of
Silence the Mermaid tells him that she is Sovann Matcha, a daughter of Ravana - the demon who had abducted Sita the Queen. When Ravana saw Hanuman's monkeys building a causeway he had instructed her to stop it at Once!  After that Hanuman tells Sovann Matcha
why he is building the causeway. He tell her it is because of the abduction of the Queen Sita.
And there will be a battle between King Rama and her father Ravana.
Then he tells Sovann Matcha if he defines the Kings orders and doesn't finish the causeway
within seven days he would pay with his life. At this point the two lovers turned to each other

Sovann Matcha to Hanuman and their eyes were filled with love. Then Sovann said,"No more,
would she prevent Hanuman from completing his mission.''
Sovann and her mermaids underwater would in fact return all the stolen rocks to the
causeway. And in fact they did and the causeway was built from the Island to safe the
King Rama wife - the Queen Sita was saved. Both the lovers did part, bu it was not to be the end for them.. Hanuman had left a seed with Sovann Matcha and soon she would give birth. Well that is the Tale of the Mysterious Mermaids. I hope that you all Enjoyed the tale.
I love you all very much my dear Friends & Follower hugssss!

The Last Japanese Mermaids-

 The Last Japanese Mermaids-

For Nearly two thousand years, Japanese women living in the small
coastal fishing villages made a remarkable life for themselves and their families by hunting for oysters and abalone in the depths of the very cold ocean coastline of Japan. They also would dive for the sea snail that produces those most beautiful and rare white, pink, and black pearls.  There are other colors too of these beautiful pearls but I can't remember all of the kinds of pearls that they do find.
They are known as Ama, and from this post you will learn that they are still a few of these Ama's ladies still left in Japan. And that still make their living well into their 9os . How you say? By filling their lungs with air and diving for long periods of time deep deep into the very cold depths of the Pacific ocean, with nothing more than a mask and flippers.
This is one of the reason the myth of the Mermaid started with the
woman in Japan. Because of how they were able to dive so deep into the depth of the cold waters of the Pacific oceans, off the coast of Japan. So Myths and legends have become to real mermaids both with the legends and with the ladies of Japan.
In the mid 2oth century, Iwase Yoshiyuki returned to the fishing village where he grew up and started photographing these women doing this

A very unusual profession that is still very much alive today in the 21th century. Yoshiyuki even after his Education  found himself drawn to the ancient tradition of the Ama divers in his hometown. It is said that his simple black &White  photos are thought to be the only comprehensive documentation of the near-extinct tradition in existence.

These very young women, probably only in their 20's and some just  young girls would dive into the freezing waters off of the coastline
of Japan into the depths of the Pacific for 2mins at at times and come up to breathe for just barely a few seconds. They would do this up to 60 times in a single diving
session, up to three times a day. These young women and girls would dive into this freezing water too harvest seaweed, turban shells and the prosperous pearl-bearing abalone which takes a very deep deep dives into the depth of the freezing waters..and to prey them off the coral on the bottom of the ocean is just yet another of they problems they would have. In the times it was thought that women, were believed to be better suited for the task of the freezing waters because of and extra insulating layer of fat on the female body that allowed them to hold their breath much longer than that of any man.
With this advantage, they could also make more money in a single diving season than most of the men in their village would make in a years worth of work at a regular job.
So you are probably wondering why you see so many naked ladies!

Well the reason for this is, the modern wetsuit didn't become available until the late 1950s and the cotton suits that were available at the time, were said to be very uncomfortable/when wet and made them feel much colder when they  were out of the freezing waters than if they wore nothing at all.

The naked body dries much faster by its own body heat, but if you have a wet cotton suit on, it will keep the body cold & wet. It will take far longer for the body to warm up even with freezing air that blows off the coastline after the girls come out of the water. This is why most Ama took to diving in the cold pacific ocean with nothing more than a tiny loincloth and a mask.
After the World War II, the carefree Ama divers of Japan suddenly
began to have, lets say  tourism come to even their  small towns where they were diving into the ocean with just the loincloth and mask , which forced them to change there Traditional ways of diving. The Ama divers had to eventually covering or basically were forced to cover-up. But I thought you might like a peek of the precious moments of the past traditions  that will soon will all disappear from all different cultures. This being Japan.

Japanese Mermaids: Ancient Pearl Hunters of the Sea-
This is a continuation of the Mermaid  women of the Freezing oceans of the Japan. These women known as Ama are the last of
their kind. In their floral wetsuits, they fill their lungs with just pure air into their lungs then dive for a long periods of time into the depths of the very cold Pacific ocean, with nothing more than a mask and flippers. A little more than what traditional they use to do but they still are Ama's and they still make a living hunting for abalone, a sea snail that produce the beautiful pearls of Japan.
In Japan women and young girls have been doing his job for nearly two thousand years , because they believe that over the centuries
that, females have always been more suited for this type of work in the Freezing waters of the depths of the Pacific ocean.
But these women that are carry on the tradition of the Ama Woman are not the young women and girls like  before-
No .....They are Indeed the true last of the Ama's The elders The

youngest known Ama is forty-five years old and women are commonly known to dive well into their 90s. But their daughters and the younger female generations of the communities of the small villages of the Ama's are uninterested in learning form their elders. So the unusual profession is nearly if not almost extinct. If
the younger generation doesn't carry on the Ama's them the Two thousand tradition will die out and that to me would be so sad..
I guess it might have something to do with what these women Ama divers do. Underwater hunting , often can go down to a free dive up to 30 feet below, its very dangerous work and the divers are often joined by shark during their descent. The Amas will usually be under water for 2mins at a time and come up for air for just barely a few seconds. They will do this up to 60 time's in one diving session the water too is often freezing too.
The Ama don't make as much money as they did 40years ago , so this could be another reason why the job is not attractive to the younger Japanese women. But these women who have have managed to support themselves and their families entirely while their husbands often fisherman are away most of the year.
So these could be the very reasons when the young generation isn't

interested in learning the ways of the Ama and come be the End of an great tradition of Japan that will be just in the books and no
more until the few have live out their lives as the last of his wonderful tradition in japan for over two thousand years..
I hope you all enjoyed this post.  I thought it was interesting ..
much love you my dear readers..
 Wendy..

Ningyo Japanese Mermaid~
In the Japanese folklore they are called the Mermaid - Ningyo.
Unlike the European and Westerns who call them Mermaids. They are also a different kinda of creature in Japaneses culture compared to the European and Western Culture  too. In Japan the Ningyo is depicted as being an enormous fish but, with the head of a beautiful woman. Plus she is benevolent and very protective towards humans. They warn humans against misfortune on land and in the oceans and seas. They do not entice them into danger like her occidental counterparts. Note: These different folklore's are all up to a matter of opinion. I've just written the different cultures, myths, legends and folklore of the different counties.
The Traditional Mermaids are often seen sitting on rocks on the
edge of the ocean seashore. They are usually singing and enticing curious sailors to come closer to the dangerous rocks near the oceans shores. It is this singing that allies them to the sirens, luring sailors to their doom. Even the ancient accounts as well as the more modern ones, the appearance of these creatures will conjunction with misfortune and disaster.
Although there are a few regions - Scotland, Wales and Cornwall in
England where the Mermaid has been kind and benevolent towards humans when they have rescue humans from the oceans and give humans their great knowledge in herbal cures for fatal sickness, others have given humans rich gifts in gemstones and warned them of terrible storms that are coming.
It is also been heard of that a few of these Mermaids will marry a human. Their children will often have webbed feet and fingers. Yet these marriages never last very long. The mermaid usually will return to their watery world of the sea, where their men are called mermen.
There are some stories during the medieval period in Europe that considered the mermaid to be an  agent of the devil and a symbol of deceit, but I don't believe in that at  myself personally so I am not going to go further on that subject.
I have found that there is a rich history and tradition in folktales, songs and culture around the world with the Mermaid-
These places are such as;
The Bonito Maidens of the Solomon islands
The Saivo-Neita and Havfrue of Scandinavia
The Nakinneito of Finland
The Nakinein of Estonia
The Imanja & Jamaina from Brazil
The Margygr of Greenland
Ningyo of Japan.
I hope you Enjoy the legend of the Ningyo Japanese Mermaid
Love you all my dear Friends and Followers! Your Wendy!

The Nixies-2013

The Nixie's
Nixes are the water-people that inhabit all  lakes and rivers of Germany.
Some say if they see any beautiful maidens dancing on the surface of either a lake or  nearby river, it means that someones has downed in the waterway that they are dancing on - These Nix maidens could be naked or with light clothing. In the any culture it is heartbreaking for all to lose a love one due to a downing and to have maidens dancing for joy because of this sad incident makes it that much harder to deal with. But I am sure there were some that took pleasure in seeing these maidens dancing naked or with very thin clothing on the lake or river.
In German folklore the Nixie's are your typical mermaid. But they are very different in Germany.
The males Nix have green teeth and wear a green hat, sitting on a rocks near the banks of rivers & lakes. They are probably scoping out the human women to see who looks to be easy prey to enchanted or trick them into coming with them down to their underwater palace, where the ladies are forced to marry these devious male Nixes and  have a lifetime of all eternity serving them.
Interesting I thought and quite different than the Greek Merman. I did find a bit of information that
you might find interesting - The mermen are also have been depicted as having webbed fingers and toes, also they were said to have green beards and hair too. These Merman were able to breathe underwater like a fish and would rather stay in the ocean where they origins are, and they can cause the violent storms and sink passing ships. I thought this to be all very fascinating  for two reasons 1) because there really isn't much written on the merman - I had to really strength to find what I did on the Mermen 2) I had a very hard time finding any photo's that depicted the type of mermen I describe above.  I will show you the photo's I did find and you can make your own conclusions on this subject..
These are not my own photo's - They are of different fine Artist...
But I have gotten of track of the Nix, so I will continue with the Nixes counterpart the female~
Now the Female Nixes are very different than their male counterpart, the original Greek typical mermaid.

Although there are few similarities with the female Nixes, you can usually see these beautiful young maidens on sunny days sitting on the river bank or the branches of the trees that over-hang the lakes. They are usually combing their long flowing golden hair and could be either clothed or naked.
Nixie's Habitat ~
The Nixes live down in the waterways of lakes & rivers, in these magnificent  palace's below the deepest parts of the waterways.  Some say its an enormous castles with many other equally beautiful buildings stretched across the lakes and deepest parts of the rivers in Germany.

In the German folklore history there was a story about a young maiden who lived in a small German
village. She was the maid in the house of this small village and everything in her live there was wonderful for the exception of the food at time. She said that there were times that she would have to ask if she could have the food to not have any salt added to hers . I find this very interesting because in all legends, stories & actual true encounters of the mermaid it is always ocean - not fresh water mermaids and I have never heard of a story of a mermaid asking if she could have her food without salt.
Another interesting fact about the female Nix - when they go on the banks of the lake & rivers they  always dressed in the finest clothes whatever period their in. This could be either the  1200's or 1900's. They are always in finest clothes that the human woman ware. The only way you might be able to tell if they were a Nix is, by the hem of their dress or some other part of their clothing that might be wet. This is the only sign that you might be able to tell if they are a Nix. But mostly they are never discover when on land.
Now the male Nix is a very different story. They only go onto the banks of the rivers and lakes to  either enchant or trick a human female into coming back with them below the waters of the lake or rivers where they are usually force to marry and serve the male Nix for a eternity.

I found this to be a fascinating Magick Creature. And It was interesting to find that there was a fresh
water mermaids and mermen. I also found when writing this blog,  that I couldn't find  much information on the merman.  They mostly had the info on the mermaids which I found to be unfair & curious since it is the 21th century?
These few photo's I have found of the female Nix
I hope you enjoy! They are from a few great Artist that I found
Enjoy... Wendy

LUTEY & THE MERMAID~

LUTEY & THE MERMAID~
The Mermaid hurt by the sharp rocks
This is a charming tale of an fisherman from Cornwall and a Mermaid. I thought you might enjoy the tale. I know I did when I found the story. So just sit back and grab a good cup of warm coffee and a warm blanket and enjoy the tale and the music that I have on my blog.
The story starts with a an fisherman of Cornwall; in the ancient days of Cornwall Ireland the fisherman of the ships would search the shipwrecks on the beaches for valuables that would wash up a shore from all the fishing ships in the day. It seems in those days many of the fishing ships were taken by the cruel rocky coastlines.
One day the fisherman Lutey of Cury who lived near Lizard Point discovered a lovey & beautiful Mermaid that was stranded in one of the many tidepools among these rocky coastlines where the fisherman lost there own lives in their fishing ships. She looked like she had been hurt, from the sharp rocks that she was hanging from. Lutey couldn't see her face but he could tell she was very beautiful and needed help. It had looked like she had taken something to help, because there was a small crystal bottle on the sand near her and it was empty. Lutey did believe in mermaids and has seen them in the distance, but this was the first time he had seem one close-up and in trouble too. As he approached her Lutey discovered that indeed the mermaid was very beautiful and he had no problem with her trust to persuaded her to let him carry her down off the receding rock coastline to the sea below.
Lutey caring the Mermaid
to safety
The closer Lutey was able to get the mermaid down of the spark rocks the more she began to trust the human man even more. She was snuggling Lutey by the time they were at the shoreline and she offered him three wishes for his kindness. Since Lutey was a good and kindly man, his first wish was; to have the power to break witch spells(black magick); second wish was the power to force witches familiars to do good to others; Finally the third wish; that these two powers be inherited by his descendants. The mermaid was very glad to grant all three wished to such a kindly and good man that had saved her from curtain death, because he had chosen wisely and unselfishly too. Besides the mermaid added two more gifts too his 3 wishes, First Gift; that none of his family should every want; Second Gift; was away for him to call her when in need by the use of her magic golden comb. Lutey thanked the mermaid and still carried her without effort and placed her toward the sea.
The Mermaid singing her siren kinda
sounds that mortal men can resist
Now Lutey was a very handsome man and very strong too. Those wishes that he asked of the mermaid well there was more to this story; you see it seem that the mermaid began to wish that the fisherman, an mortal handsome man might see her more in a romantic way. How the mermaid was indeed a most beautiful creature herself. However she didn't quite know how to get the human to get him to see her in a more romantic way. Then it came to her, her voice of song. It can melt anyone heart and make anyone follow the sound of her sounds...  So when the two finally came to the edge of the crashing waves of the sea, the mermaid began to plead with the fisherman Lutey to come with her into her world under the sea. At his point she had her hands and arms around his neck. She was quite healthy and healed from her wounds from the spark rocks, so her had him tightly about his neck when she was pleading with him to come with her to the underwater city with her. Lutey was just about to put her into the sea gently, when the mermaid's  voice was so gentle and the movement of her lithe body so sweet in his arms that Lutey started to forget his surroundings; the crashing ocean just in front of him, the depths of the sea cliff just under his feet; it was just a few more steps and he would be gone forever to the world that he knows, as he strides onward into the sea. If it wasn't for his dog barking frantically from the shoreline none stop and reminding Lutey of his own dear wife and children. However, by now the beautiful mermaid was clinging onto Lutey even more fiercely and tightly around his neck and she would have dragged him under to her world under the sea if Lutey hadn't unsheathed his knife and threatened her with it. merfolk, so she jumped out of Lutey arms, dashed away into the crashing waves, calling back to him,
Mermaid saying goodbye and I will be
back in Nine years my Love!
This he didn't want to do but he had to because he didn't want to leave his family. and the mermaid ~ The knife was made of iron, and metal which is repulsive to
'Farewell, farewell
and keep thee well, my love!
For nine long years I'll wait for thee
And hold thee in my heart, my love
And then I shall return!
Lutey's wishes did all come true and his family and descendant's all became famous healers too. Plus the mermaids promise also came true, nine years to the day she said it. He was our fishing with one of his many sons and she rose high in the water that was as green as her big beautiful green eyes were. She shook her very long black hair to beckon Lutey.
Lutey turned to his son and said' Its time, my son I must pay my debt' Yet he didn't seem in the least unhappy as he jump of the pier into the green depths with his silvery voice love.
It is said also that since that day , every nine years an Lutey of Cury would be lost at sea. Know one really knows if they are as lucky as the first Lutey being a joyous one, but one hopes that they all joy the underworld of mermaids where the first Lutey is to live a very happy life. I hope that you all Enjoy the tale of the Mermaid and the fisherman Lutey of Cury.
I love you all my dear Friends & Follower

Celtic Mermaid

Celtic Mermaid~
Celtic Mermaid
Seal-People Selkies
of the Shetland Islands
of Scotland
For this post I thought I would bring, you all my dear friends & Follower into the land of the Shetland Islands. Where it tells of many legends of the Mermaids. In these Shetland Island there is an common legend story with such details within the story, that it even matches the locations too. In these stories of the Shetland Islands often more than not the actual name are given to the people and places that are involved within the stories. Sometimes even the date of these stories were firmly attached to these stories of an particular location of the Islands. These would make the legends more of truth. The Story of the Celtic Mermaid starts on a fine summer evening on the Shetland Islands of Scotland. It seems that there was someone who inhabitant the Islands, just happened to be walking along the sandy shoreline by the small bay. The moon that night had risen and it was full. So by its light the young man could see a great distance before him on the Shetland islands of Scotland. As he approach a bit closer he so before him a number of sea-people who were dancing on the smooth white sand. What the young man found most interesting, was what was near the ground by the dancing Sea-people.
Just a few feet away he saw lying in the sand several seal-skins. Then it came to him that these must be the ancient Seal-People that the Call 'Selkies' in the Celtic Mythology of the Shetland Islands. He was very exited that he actually was in the misted of an beautiful Celtic Mythology Creatures. As the Young man got closer to the dancers, they all stopped dancing and raced for their seal-skins. Putting them on and then plunging into the sea into the form of Seals. However in the confusion there was one seal-skin that was left behind, which was lying at the young mans feet. Well to the to the young Seal-Selkie who was looking for it all night it was a nightmare, because this young man decided to snatch up the Seal-skin and ran to his home and hid it. Then he returned to the shore, and of course he would met up with the fairest and most beautiful maiden that he had ever seen. The young maiden had been waking up and down, the sea shore all night looking for her loss seal-skin robe. Moaning over the lost of it and the lost of never being able to rejoin her family and friends of the sea. She knew now that, she would have to remain in the world lit by the sun and never again be in the cool waters under the sea. So the Young man approached the maiden and tried to console her. She begged him to restore her dress, but the sight of her lovely face, more beautiful in tears had steeled his heart. Its is said that Mermaids are always beautiful, but never more so than in the Celtic world. So what this Young man told her is that it was impossible for her to return to the sea with her friends and family and that they would soon forget about her anyway. Finally he was able to convince the beautiful Celtic Mermaid/Selkie that she could never return to her home of the sea and that their family and Friends of the sea had soon forgotten all about her. When he had did that he asked her to marry him. All along he had hidden her Seal-skin away so that she would never leave him. The Young man then told her that it was impossible for her to return, and that her friends would soon forget all about her forever. So the Sea-maiden finding that she had no alternative and no where to live, she consented to become his wife. Their Marriage was easily arranged in Celtic Traditions and the couple lived together for many many years. Some have said even happy. During the time they were together the two had several children, however non had any signs of their mothers marine origins except for a thin web between their fingers and a bend of of their hands, like that fore paws of a seal. These  Characteristics to this day still remain in this family in Scotland to this day..from generation to generation.. And of course no one ever said anything about the Myth of the Celtic Mermaid...
The Shetlander of the Islands off of Scotland loved his beautiful wife, but the Celtic Mermaid never did return his affection during the entire marriage even do to the fact they had children too. She would often sneak out alone when everyone was asleep and would go with hast down to the lonely white sandy beach. Once she got there a large seal would always appear and the two would converse for hours til almost dawn in an unknown language. When it was time for her to return home from this nightly meetings with the unknown large Seal, she was very sad, thoughtful and grateful for the conversations. However, even with the many visits from the unknown large Seal late at night, according to the legend, many many years went by and the beautiful Celtic Mermaid/Selkie hopes of leaving the upper world had about vanished completely... But there is a happy ending to this tale. One day it seems that one to her children saves her mother from a life away from the sea. It seems the the child was playing behind a stack of corn  and found the hidden seal-skin that was tuck away all those years ago.
Once the child showed it to her mother and asked what it was - well you could probably only imagination the delight that the mother felt. It was like winning a prize. Once she had it in her hands she knew exactly what it was. Her eyes were glistening with delight because she knew at once that it was her own dress/seal-skin. She was finally free to return to her friends and family beneath the waves. However, there was one thing that did trouble her. She did love all her children and she was now about to leave them forever. After kissing and embracing them all several times. She took up the skin and headed down to the beach. It wasn't but a few minutes later when her husband came in and the children told him what had happened. Well the truth hurts and he knew that this day could very well happen. And if it did he would loose this beautiful Celtic Mermaid Wife~ So that whole evening flashed across his mind, the night  he spotted the women dancing in the moon light near the shoreline with all those Seal-Skins..As he ran down to the shoreline with all the speed, love and anxiety he could give into it. Knowing in his heart that he probably had already had lost her to the sea. But when the Shetlander arrived at the shore he was only time to see his wife take the form of a Seal and plunge into the sea. Remember that Large Seal that the Maiden would have long conversations with every night all those years on the shoreline in a different language?  Yes that Large Seal, with whom she used to converse with! well yes he was her Husband and congratulated her on her escape. However, before she vanished into the deep ocean with her husband of the sea - she turned around to her landed husband, who stood in despair, "Farewell  and may all good fortune atten you. I loved you while i was with you, but I will always love my first husband better.' So that is the ending of one Celtic Mermaid/Selkie and with this one which from what I understand many of the legends of the Celtic Mermaids/Selkies of the Shetland Islands in Scotland are true. I hope that you Enjoyed the legend. Hugs
