Historical Perspective
I thought I would do a few posts that are a bit more personal just so you all can get to know a little more yu! So What is Dyslexia? This has been always a personal one for me and it is also a hard one to Explain too. heheeh. It was even more difficult to explain why the children of that time would have difficultly reading, not being able to explain why they couldn't do the math,English, writing assignments, language, reading competition and even memorize problems...But when I was a kid of the late 60's and 70's which I'm now aging myself

It was always explained as low intelligence, poor eye sight, poor hearing , inadequates education, behavioral problems in school, laziness, bad home life, the list is long!
I know, I've heard it all! It wasn't till I was 28years old that I was finally tested at a learning center that I learned what was going on all those years as a child. And finding out that I had Dyslexia what it meant too!
At the time it was 1988 when I found out that I had Dyslexia at the learning center when they tested me. And it was when I had been excepted to an 4year college Humboldt State College. I had choose that college because of my brother and sister/law who told me that they had a great learning center that would be great for me. Anyway once i was tested the folks were very surprised that I had a B+ average and that I had graduated from a community college and high school all with a B+ average and wondered how did I do it? I told them if it wasn't for my mother, father, sister,brother and best friend of over 35years/sister/in/law, who got me help me thru all my schooling I wouldn't have made it here at the University of Humboldt.
I think I put them all in AWE! from that... Family does help you get thru the hardest these in life and I never knew that I would have to count on them again in 2005 but that's another story which you all know on my profile. Anyway. I couldn't have gotten my BA Art Degree in Photography/Ceramics without the learning center that the University of Humboldt has on campus. It may have took me 4years but i did it. I pray from this post that more folks that have dyslexia will rally that more University , community colleges and even high schools and grade schools have learning centers to help kids like me and so many out there so they don't have to find out till they are 28years old and go thru what I did.
Dyslexia- Simply definition: It is an inherited condition that makes it extremely difficult to read, write and spell alot of confidence in themselves [like myself it took many years to get where I am today!but your can over-come Yes you can . Because now I writing a book and I'm a blogger who would of guessed that!]
Dyslexia- Is a neurologically, based often familial, disorder which interferes with the acquisition and processing of language . Varying in degrees of severity, it is manifested by difficulties in receptive and expressive language. Including phonological processing in reading, writing, spelling and handing writing and math problems too.
Dyslexia - is not the result of lack of motivation although dyslexia is a lifelong condition. individuals with dyslexia generally find ways of dealing with it.
Cause: Dyslexia is an inherited condition, that the gene is dominate makes dyslexia highly heritable. It definitely runs in the families that why you need great family support.
